Re: Wemby first NBA rookie to ever make all-defensive first team
Well earned for Wemby.
This might change after he goes through the usual rookie tweaks, but I think he's more exciting and impressive defensively than offensively.
The Spurs were gave up 114.6 pts/100 possessions with Wemby, and 121.0/100 possessions without him on the court, per 82games.

To anchor that to something, 121 pts/100 possessions would be worst in the league for defensive rating, while 114.6 would be about 13th. They perform about 13th best with Wemby and 30th best without him

Top-tier defense and nearly top-tier rebounding is a great base for him to build from. Unfortunately, it's happening with a garbage-tier supporting cast. Even by 1st round pick standards, that roster blows.

All defense is positionless. Also maybe wings just need to defend better

Because your Era is garbage Defensively, that's how.
"Today's NBA is soft, the Defense is weak, and the rules 'really' favor the Offense."
"Lebron doesn’t guard for a full game and our game plan was to get him to play defense and he left me open all game."

Poor Anthony Davis, stuck wallowing in LeMediocrity with the Lakers because he has to carry LeFraud's worthless ass on Defense.

Since it’s not rewarded by position, that’s how it should be. The best defensive players have always been centers. The only time a guard should be ahead of a big is when a player like Jamal magloire is an all star big.

To be fair, Bam could literally play any position though...

"More important" Defenders perhaps (not necessarily "better"), but that was back when Centersplayed in/around the paint and defended the rim on every possession. In today's "Modern Era" Centers are too busy on the perimeter chuckin' 3's.elmerjfudd wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 9:30 pmSince it’s not rewarded by position, that’s how it should be. Bam has played in more playoff games these past three seasons alone (46) than the entire Orlando Magic team has since 2010 (42).

Neither could your hero Jabbar. In fact Kareem played five (5) "full" seasons before he made First Team D... MJ only needed 3.

Re: Wemby first NBA rookie to ever make all-defensive first team
It's always funny how boomers want to discredit modern offenses by saying the rules favor offenses (they do, but it's not nearly enough to explain the giant gaps), but cry and whine when someone uses the same logic to discredit 80s/90s defenses, even though boomers claim you could literally do anything on defense back then (when they speak about why those eras offenses were complete shit by modern standards).
If Jordan played in such a restrictive era for defense like today, he'd average 0.5 steals a game max, and likely would give up 30 a night, because he wouldn't have the ability to handcheck and maim offensive players like he did every game in the rough and tumble 90s.
True spit or something.

Yes, they do, and yes it IS... and that's coming from the Commissioner, the VP of Ops, and many (current) players and coaches... and these "experts" have forgotten more about the game than you will ever know, regardless of what your silly "made-up" stats might suggest.Bush4Ever. wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 11:34 am It's always funny how boomers want to discredit modern offenses by saying the rules favor offenses (they do, but it's not nearly enough to explain the giant gaps),
Defense absolutely SUCKS today, relative to the late 80's - 00's.
Deal with it.
