Re: MLB Hot Stove: Ohtani signs 10-years $700 million
I don't think the Phillies make the playoffs. It's a hunch.
Feel like they will be dejected from last season's choke job.

I have a very hard time seeing that. They are clearly alone in tier-2 under the Dodgers and Braves.

Philly has way too much firepower to not win at least 85 games which is all you need to make the POs these days.

Mets should sign Trevor Bauer, Wander Franco and Urias
Re: MLB Hot Stove: Ohtani signs 10-years $700 million
Definitely Bauer. I dont think Urias can be signed since on suspension.kobeunderbite wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:58 am Mets should sign Trevor Bauer, Wander Franco and Urias

It's amazing how Ohtani and Yamamoto have known they would be signing with the Dodgers for years
It's at the point where I would be rooting for the Braves over the Dodgers in a playoff series

That's how I feel at the moment, but riley's bitch ass has been completely silent ever since the Braves were neutered. Maybe some more of riley's shitposts will tip me back in the other direction, but until then he's neutered just like his team
Re: MLB Hot Stove: Ohtani signs 10-years $700 million
You know I was just thinking, the Dodgers may as well get Hader too.

It is what it is, if the Mets weren't carrying like $100m in dead money *or* it wasn't an awful FA class, the Mets would be making moves, but both of those factors combined have us sitting on our hands and looking ahead to next winter for when the action will come with Bieber, Burnes, Fried etc. available. Yamamoto or Ohtani would have been exceptions and the Mets would have laid out for either but it's now obvious that both of those guys have been Dodgers for years so that was never happening.
It's just crazy that a 4th OF can command $10m now.

Indeed. The money they make is crazy. I also hope that the MLB changes the contracts so teams can't do what the Dodgers did with Ohtani again.kobeunderbite wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 12:45 pmPhutureDynasty wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 12:34 pmYou sound really happy about that one.kobeunderbite wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 12:24 pm Playing baseball is good work if you can get it, shitty Harrison Bader parlays his 69 OPS+ into $10 million from the Mets

Do you think baseball is at its peak for talent or do you believe previous eras were better in that regard?

I would have to say yes, pitchers throw harder than ever by far and throw secondary pitches more frequently, and those pitches generally have superior break and action.
That's why strikeouts are up and hitters are going for broke more frequently. The hitters are better and stronger than ever too but it's a different game when you're seeing 100 every game and it's not an event. Remember when Billy Wagner was special for hitting 100 mph?
Re: MLB Hot Stove: Ohtani signs 10-years $700 million
Apparently he is strongly considering the Rangers. Also he won’t be healthy until the summer so I think they are more focused on getting an arm to start the season with. They want to ease Buehler back in slowly. I even heard Sean Manneia mentioned rofl

Speaking of neutered, I dont even bother thinking about teams that spend $400+ million dollars only to finish 29 games out of 1st place...kobeunderbite wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 1:02 pmOdogg wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 10:35 amNo you won’t.kobeunderbite wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 2:44 am

I remember when you used to think the Mets were somehow on the Braves level, and we learned that no amount of money will ever make that true kiddo..
Tell me again about Daddy Cohen's money!!!
