There are a few reasons why the ground invasion has been so delayed,

1. Needed time for US, Germany, UK to move their ships to within striking distance of Lebanon
2. Needed time for Blinken to arrange his meetings around the Middle East making sure there are no bad actors outside of Iran/Syria/Hezbollah
3. Needed time for Israel to fortify the northern border with Lebanon
4. Needed time to gather intelligence on the hostages
5. The air assaults on Hamas territories will make the ground invasion all the more easy
6. Needed time to prepare the iron beam and bring in more iron dome missiles and bunker busters from the US

Ultimately the time will have done far more good for Israel than Hamas, even if the day after the Hamas attack was the best time in terms of international sympathy being at an all-time high.
