Amazing legs by Oppenheimer. Came within 1.5 mil in its 3rd week. Movies are making a comeback, but the strikes will dampen it

800 million is slipping away, looking like a pipe dream. This bitch movie is in C tier Marvel territory and that's an industry comeback lol?

UPDATE

Oppenheimer BACK in the #2 spot like it never left. :laugh3:

Undies blew his load because Ninja Turtles barely limped in front of Oppenheimer by a photo finish. And you really thought Meg 2 was going to do something other than flop harder than prime Ginobili. You had to celebrate while you could. You knew you were on borrowed time.

Back to business as usual for Barbenheimer.

"Amazing legs"

Oppenheimer 4th weekend - $18.8 million
GotG 3 in its 5th weekend - $26.8 million

Image

Btw, just like with Avaturd, because the IMAX share is so incredibly high, the actual tickets sold is WAY lower than its take suggests. Oppenheimer's domestic total is as much as 40% IMAX, tickets for which are generally 70-100% more expensive, meaning even if it claws its way to the level of GotG 3, it won't have sold nearly as many tickets.

Marvel wins again lol. Nolan's lifetime achievement movie can't even outslug James Gunn's 3rd talking raccoon Chris Pratt comedy, and forget about it reaching Doctor Strange 2 :mjlaugh:

I will be contributing to Nolan's pockets tomorrow as Oppenheimer opens here in Korea. Wife wants to see it too.

people not willing to pay as much for GOTG is not a flex

Looks like Oppenheimer will outgross it despite being Rated R, 3 hours long, made for adults only

and in reality, only a tiny percentage of people actually see it on imax. I didnt even consider doing that. Imax is lame.

IMAX is legit. This was my first time watching on an IMAX screen and I didn’t notice the difference until I saw it in a regular theater. Even the lighting sucked in the regular theater. The movie was too dark and I could barely see anything compared to the IMAX screen where you can see every detail.

I have no skin in this fight but can someone explain the appeal to seeing this movie in IMAX. I heard if you see it it needs to be in imax. Like madness said isn’t it mostly just old white people talking in the movie. So why is the experience enhanced in imax? Is there a big scene of hiroshima going boom?

Holy shit, Nolan fags seriously need to ELIMINATE superhero movies as a category to generate any hype or achievement for him LOL.

They are unironically owning themselves :mjlaugh:

There's no need to see it in true IMAX, it's a complete waste for this movie. True IMAX is for spectacle movies like Infinity War, Gravity, the airport scene in Civil War, etc.

Can't find the up to date numbers but IMAX accounted for 20% of all of its business opening weekend, and the only reason it wasn't massively higher was because there weren't enough IMAX screens to meet the demand.

So yeah, if Oppenheimer ends up clawing its way to James Gunn's latest masterpiece's box office total, it will have done so with anywhere from 30-40 percent fewer people actually seeing the movie lol
