Most impressive MJ accomplishment ever...???

Post by thedangerouskitchen »

First off, for perspective sake, let's keep in mind the GOAT accomplished more in just 11 (full) seasons with the Bulls than LeBron and Jabbar did in 20 years. So dare I say this one is gonna be impossible to form any sort of consensus opinion, what with just a few of the most obvious ones include:

- A perfect 6-0/6 MVP's in the Finals (greatest Winner ever)

- 10 Scoring titles and 9 First Team All Defense selections (greatest all-around player - WoW!)

- Winning the MVP, Scoring title and DPOY in the same season (the only player to do so)

- Winning 2 separate 3-Peats with two entirely different sets of teammates (only Pip was the constant)

...and you could go on and on and on, but having said that, which one of MJ's accomplishments is MOST impressive?

At the end of the day I would have to say Jordan playing 626 straight games (Regular Season, Playoffs/Finals combined from 91-98) without ever losing more than 2 games in a row. Think of it: That's like going almost 8 full seasons and never having a 3 game losing streak! For perspective sake, LeBron lost 3 in a row multiple times this season alone, and he only played slightly more than half the year!!

 :o  :o  :o  :o  :o

So what say you folks?

His best accomplishment is obviously the pair of threepeats in a leading role, and everything nested within that (leader, MVP of regular season and Finals outside 1996, etc...).

To put that in perspective, Bill Russell, only had six separate threepeats, but Jordan doing it once is still impressive AF.

Stone-cold killer on the court... can you imagine Jordan playing today, with these sissy rules against these soft players (who need 2 weeks off for an AS break, can't average 38-40 minutes a game, need numerous "rest days" off per year, etc., etc., etc.)

Mike would eat this era alive, no question.

But I digress... back to the topic. :D

Yeah, okay then... but he said 6 "seperate" 3-Peats, meaning win 3 lose, then win 3, etc. I just figured 11 in 13 years sort of speaks for itself.

BTW, since Russell was brought up:

Did you know 9 of his 11 Championships came when there were just 8-10 teams in the league? True story.

Did you also know that for 8 of his 11 Championships Russell/Celtics only had to win one (1) Playoff series to reach the Finals? Yup, that's true too,

And did you also know that Russell was taken to 7-games a whopping 10 times during his run (including 5 times in the Finals) despite most of those seasons Boston had 2-3 times as many future HOF teammates on the roster than their opponents? True again!

In other words by every logical and objective criteria Jordan's Bulls Dynasty was more impressive.

His most impressive accomplishment was waiting for Magic/Bird to get old, the NBA talent to dilute from expansion in the 90s, and for Pippen to come along to get him out of the 1st round.

Go Jordan!

Wrong, as usual.

In fact Russell inherited a (future) HOF backcourt, plus Heinsohn was a rookie the same year as Russ, and Sam Jones came along the very next season. Hondo proved his HOF worthiness after Russ retired, Bailey Howell was a 20/11 guy for a half-dozen seasons before joining the Celtics, etc.

Relative to the competition at the time those Celtics were faaaaaaaaar more talented from top-to-bottom than 95% of the teams they faced during their 13 year run.

Another uninformed / dumb comment, since Magic was the runner-up MVP in 91 (the year Jordan beat him) while the Bulls never faced Bird in the playoffs after MJ's 3rd season.

\...and yes, rookie Pippen's 8-Points / 4-rebounds a game was most definitely the #1 reason why the Bulls got out of the first round.

Bill is the common denominator.

Sam Jones was a role player for his first three titles. Howell only participated in two titles....he was an opponent for 7 seasons prior. Hondo only won 2 titles after Russell....one of those saw him average 13 PPG in the playoffs.

It was Bill.

Wrong. Sam Jones was Boston's best Scorer for a number of playoff/Finals series... Russell was a borderline liability on Offense. Hondo, Cousy, Sharmin... sure HOFERS with/without Russell. Heinsohn broke in with Russ (so you could argue Tom made Russ), and Howell was a premier NBA all-star before ever teamming with Russell.

 at you making these guys out as scrubs that Russell raised to stars.

Russell was the Dennis Rodman of his time... only difference is no one in the league actually played Defense back then, which is what made Russ stand out. But the talent-level surrounding him was almost always superior to the competition Boston faced every year in the playoffs.
