In retrospect, the "Cohen Tax" was not even a speed bump. It's cute that MLB and the smaller market teams thought it would keep us in check.

Of course, this is only the beginning. Even if more barriers are put up in the next CBA (which the players will strike to prevent, so no guarantee there), by that point in time the investments being made in the infrastructure, drafting, player development, etc. of the organization will be felt like the Dodgers are experiencing now with their young, cost effective talent. And by that point in time we will already have Ohtani, Lindor, Correa, etc. locked up.

Honestly 26m AAV for Correa is solid AF. On the back end of the deal, taking inflation into account, paying an over the hill Correa 26m will mean nothing to Steve. Look how quickly it took for the Harper, Stanton, Springer, etc. deals to become market friendly.

MLB owners really didn't understand what they were getting involved with when they approved Steve Cohen. I don't think anyone did, not even the most optimistic Mets fan. Mets revenues are supposedly around $300m-$400m annually so they will be taking a $100m loss based on the player salaries alone. The guy doesn't give a fuck because he makes several times that annually in his day job and more importantly is in this for the long-haul. He's up for one of three casino licenses to be granted in New York City and if approved will be developing all of the area around Citi Field including helping to move the Islanders and New York City FC next door to the ballpark. He will eventually be buying SNY which is a cash cow in and of itself, the owners of the network will have no choice but to sell to him because its value is based on the TV deal it has to broadcast the Mets, eventually the deal will run out and Steve can sell the rights elsewhere and cripple the network.

Again, this is only the beginning. The Mets are here to stay, a bonafide, perennial powerhouse that is too big and too powerful to fail. We won't win every title but we'll be in the thick of it every year until Steve Cohen drops dead and even then perhaps beyond.

The crying and the whining from rival teams, fans, owners etc. is so beautiful. Music to our ears. After decades of inept ownership and management by the Wilpons I would have taken anyone, but to have the best, most dedicated owner in the sport is something special.

He gets his physical with the Mets today. That's a helluva lot of Benjamins for a guy who might have a chronic back issue.

We sure do. Once we yank Shohei off the bitch ass west coast we’ll break the cap off Mt Fuji and use its gaping hole to buttfuck the world and everything in it.

Almost comical at this point.

Baseball is a weird sport with every field having different dimensions and no salary cap.

That would be ridiculous if he failed his physical. That injury was 8 years ago.

Has any player had a more chaotic year in free agency in the modern era than Correa?

Report that it's essentially a coin toss that the NYM keep Correa given his bad physical.

Not going to lie I'm going to be upset if he gets away. But I will need to remind myself that it just means we will sign Soto in addition to Ohtani instead.

Sox lock up Devers

10% higher AAV than the Mookie deal they traded their way out of the negotiations of. Got some real geniuses running the show in Boston!
