The 1989/90 Pistons were probably better relative to era.
But no.
Everyone will talk about the Pistons defending Curry and Tatum and how hitting players after the whistle equates to tough alpha tough defense blah blah blah, but looking at it from the other side...imagine the Pistons putting up meaningful offense against either team.
Where the hell are the points going to come from? The Celtics would *devour* them defensively.
But no.

That era was when real men played. The types that had hair on their chests. It was much more physically demanding and it makes these players today seem like pussies in comparison.
LeBron would drive once to the lane and get destroyed by Laimbeer* and probably consider retirement before he even stands up.

Some of these old pros just need to shut the hell up. They are embarrassing themselves.

In a fist fight, sure. But not in a basketball game. No way, no how.

The Bad Boys would injure Curry's legs to the point he could now play. Pistons would win hands down, not even close.+
Re: Isiah Thomas: Bad Boy Pistons could easily beat these Dubs/Celts
Bulls beat both these teams.

After tonight, I think the Pistons could be the Celts

Late 80's rules / style: Pistons sweep
Today's rules / style: Boston / GS probably win in 6 or 7

Yup, fairly easily... as the 90's Bulls dominated both the physical, slow-paced teams like NY and Detroit, and also destroyed the fast-paced /run-gun teams like Phoenix, LA, etc.
Plus, at the end of the day who the hell is stopping Jordan? Exactly... no one.

Idk about the bad boys or bulls but the 71 Bullets would conquer all.

Neither of these teams are anything special though. Boston kinda fluked their way to the Finals IMHO, and the Warriors are basically Curry + lesser versions of Klay & Draymond. It’s not like this is the Warriors with KD, or the 73 win Warriors.

That's how big the gap between the modern era and Jordan's era is.
"Meh" title-winning/contending teams in 2022 would beat *legendary* 80s/90s teams by 20-30 points per game (straight across).
Much like the worst team in 1991 would beat the Mikan Lakers by 100 points a game.

I don't understand why people find this so hard to admit. My Grizz would freaking clock all those teams. It's just the evolution of the sport.Bush4Ever. wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 12:19 amThat's how big the gap between the modern era and Jordan's era is.

Critically watch a nineties game and try to imagine them against today's better teams and it would be cringe. It's not those players' fault, it's just one generation building on the what the former generation accomplished.
And I LOVED watching those teams play at the time. The game doesn't stand still.

Re: Isiah Thomas: Bad Boy Pistons could easily beat these Dubs/Celts
at some of these "message board experts" thinking the disparity in skill/talent/fundamentals of players from the Bad Boys / Bulls era vs. today is equivalent to the disparity of guys from the 50's / 60's (who dribbled with one hand and shot 35%-42% from the field) to the 80's/90's.
Further, league average for a player today is 6'6 / 215 pounds... so the players today are virtually the same size as they were when the Bad Boys / Bulls were dominating.
Fact is there's only one (1) facet of the game today's players are better at, and that's 3-point shooting... and that's ONLY because they practice/attempt the shot 40 times a game. Thus, it stands to reason if guys from the Bad Boys / Bulls era practiced/attempted the shot as often, they too would be just as good.
The only drastic change in the last 30 years has been the rules and the style of play... other than that there is ZERO evidence to suggest today's players have any sort of clear-cut advantage or level of superiority with respect to scoring points and defending the opposition.
None, zero, zip.
