Bashing this era while glamorizing the early-mid 00s is baffling to me.

There's no question which era had the better players. Not only do they have the better players outright, they actually brought the game forward from previous eras in a pretty noticeable that probably hasn't been seen since maybe the 80s.

Even if that was true (it's not), intensity bereft of skill doesn't equal performance.

Another small point is that you can't really make generalizations about eras based on a short montage between two players.

and part of the reason shooting by everyone has exploded so much is because of a lack of intensity/physicality on the perimeter like in that video. guys don't have to be insane isolation shot creators anymore. with freedom of movement and defenders sagging off the specialists are now shining more than ever and the athletes are a dying breed. like could you picture luka doncic moving around as easily getting bodied up by tmac or kobe back in 2002/2003 like that... highly doubt it. the guys slow as hell and freely dribbles around without anyone having the ability to stand in his way without being called for a foul. you can't "impede progress" ... todays era is more skilled shooting wise but far less skilled in terms of dealing with defensive pressure and shooting high difficulty/contested shots. you need the kobes/wades/tmacs/vince's for that... and in game dunks have suffered because of it. remember top 10 dunk highlight videos on nba.com every day? you might get 10 sick dunks a year now

even i did. when i watched it i was blown away. the last 10 years have really degraded my impression of how intense nba basketball used to be. it was almost scary how much pressure you could put on a guy on the perimeter. non athletes got swollen up. today they prance around going 2mph dribbling through their legs and around their back going around picks slow/stopping holding the guy on their bum while pinning them then darting to the rim for the easy uncontested 2
