But we're arguing in circles now. I'd be shocked to see it implemented in any way even in the preseason. I personally don't like it, but to each their own.

They earned the right to put it in cruise control. The first 3 quarters actually did happen. Forcing a team that has clearly been better for 36 minutes to continue playing starters in order to hit some fictitious number is unnecessary.

How is it any different from a team blowing a 20 point 4th quarter lead now? I don't really follow.
The clock is a factor in team's blowing 20 point leads. It's hard to be outscored by 20 in a 12-minute period.

I guess I'm confused as to why you think these quarters would last so long. The target point total isn't going to be some ridiculously high number. And even if they adopted it, they could only do it for the last few minutes of a game.

I get if you don't like it, but your concerns don't really seem valid. Does seem like more of the "get off m lawn" type of mindset.

It would be the only major sport played in this manner. I think it marginalizes the first 3 quarters.

If something were to be implemented I would much prefer your 3 minutes/7 points method.

But the entire 4th quarter....I'm not a fan, at all. If a team demolishes the other team by 20 for 3 quarters, they've earned the right to sit their starters if they like. It may be more appealing from a fan's perspective, but if I'm a player, I'm opposing this in every way possible.

You could scale it for those instances when a team has a big lead. Maybe if they have a 20 point lead heading into the 4th quarter then the team in the lead only needs to score 15 points to close out the game. If you have a 30 point lead then they only need to score 10 points, etc.

I did find the elam ending very interesting. I had never heard of it before. I hope they take the opportunity to work this into games somehow...eventually.

The true Elam ending is the final 4 minutes and you add 7 points to the lead score. It's how they do the TBT tournament during the summer.
