Shaq finished top 3 in rebounding 5 times.
It didn't help having his youth years during Rodman's prime rebounding years.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are dumber than that.

Some of you are being silly.
The absolute most severe interpretation of Shaq would be "could have been the GOAT, but is only the 10th best player ever".
Dwight is going to be a HOFer, and was a rebounding/defensive stud for many years, even though his offensive game more or less stayed in infancy.
No one who is a HOFer can possibly top this list. Basketball simply has too many guys who have missed the boat entirely. Derick Coleman was mentioned earlier...and he actually had a long career and made an all-star game. Some of these guys are starting from a high place and then dropping out of the NBA entirely or getting booted for drugs (like a Chris Washburn or Roy Tarpley).

Regarding Shaq's rebounding, he grabbed about 18 percent of all possible rebounds during his Orlando and LA years.
He probably would have been inside the top 25 all-time if he didn't hang around far past his prime:

I like the Wiggins pick.
There's very little question that the talent is there. The on court results are so far removed from the potential that it's ridiculous. And I doubt that ever changes.

I'm not sure Marbury was that good. KG made his game work okay. No KG, that guy is a very poor man's Iverson.lettherebehouse wrote:Marbury

Odom...pretty good as a rookie...but his game didn't improve much throughout his career...maybe because half of the time he was high.

He was a very dynamic young player in his own right, and could’ve had a long successful career if his head was better and worked for itvcsgrizzfan wrote:I'm not sure Marbury was that good. KG made his game work okay. No KG, that guy is a very poor man's Iverson.lettherebehouse wrote:Marbury

Maybe, but I'm not convinced. He wanted to be the guy too much without the ability to deliver. He was made for the Chinese League so it all worked out in the end.Dagger wrote:He was a very dynamic young player in his own right, and could’ve had a long successful career if his head was better and worked for itvcsgrizzfan wrote:I'm not sure Marbury was that good. I hate the guy so not defending him by any means, other than defending the claim his career was an epic wastevcsgrizzfan wrote:Maybe, but I'm not convinced. I have Shaq as the 9th greatest player of all time.
I'm not saying he isn't great, but the Dwight talk was about a very talented player so I took it to the next extreme of a superior talent in Shaq who some have debated could have been better had he cared more.
I don't believe he's the answer, it was just a talking point.

Is this shit still a debate. Scott May, is the answer.
Re: Who is the biggest "waste of talent" in the history of the NBA?
I knew what you meant and was just elaborating with you. Obvi a top ten guy like Shaq is not a "waste of talent". It's more like he could have been a Rushmore level guy with more work ethic.PhutureDynasty wrote:I have Shaq as the 9th greatest player of all time.

Very late here, but Lamar Odom is my pick. He had phenomenal talent, very agile for his size, could've been a top talent. Instead he became a druggie and married a Kardashian.
Fear is the mind killer. We are not afraid.
