I just posted the language of the 14th Amendment. It was challenged in court because it was at odds with the Chinese Exclusion Act. The Supreme Court ruled that since a Chinese kid's parents were legal permanent residents of the United States (via the clause I bolded, "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof"), he was a citizen, and had he not been the child of legal permanent residents, i.e. had his parents been subjects to a foreign power, he would not be a citizen by birth.rileymartin wrote:What does this prove?

The 14th amendment was mainly to protect children of slaves that were born in this country despite what FPL posted. Additionally, when the 14th amendment was enacted, there was pretty much no such thing as illegal immigration.

Riley, your post doesn't mean what you think it does, friend. The 14th Amendment was to make slaves and the citizens of slaves citizens. The first two lawyers are from the ACLU and Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, both liberal organizations so they will disagree on principle. The third, Donohue, isn't wrong per se - the executive order will be challenged by a lower court. I dunno. Doesn't seem to be clearcut. Here's an excerpt from a Fox News article:

But again... I'm not certain if they're reliable or merely fake news either. They did call out Trump on a lie earlier in the article.
