What if one year deals in the NBA were mandatory?
What if one year deals in the NBA were mandatory?
Do you think it’d create more parity in the league if players weren’t locked into long contracts? Would it help bad teams that give big contracts to undeserving players?
I know it’d never happen because the player’s union would have a shit fit, but I think it would make the league a lot better. The exception would obviously be that rookies would still have to play out their rookie contracts first. And it would make trades difficult and interesting due to the fact that everyone’s on an expiring deal.
But you’d have a lot more merit based contracts, as well as larger contracts for riskier players because team’s wouldn’t be locked in for years.
Thoughts?

I'd be onboard. I said something similar a few weeks ago. I wish it was a rule you HAD to change teams every 3 years.

This would kill rivalries and it rewards bad teams.

It could definitely reward bad teams. As for rivalries, do they even exist any more from player's standpoint? All the players are fucking friendly and hang out and text one another.Kobeunderbite wrote:This would kill rivalries and it rewards bad teams.

Exactly. What rivalries are there in the NBA anymore? The Cavaliers and Warriors? No. Lakers, Bulls, Celtics fans feel free to comment with something not retarded.manchild98 wrote:It could definitely reward bad teams. A franchise paying a player like Hayward to be injured for a year so they can 50/50 risk losing him in free agency while paying him millions just to rehab on their watch sounds like a novel idea, op.
Please keep these long winded wrong ideas coming so we can discuss how dismally incorrect your opinions always are.

As long as there is a NBA players' union, it will never be more than a hypothetical. Talent would end up even more concentrated I believe. Small, less glamorous markets would never have any chance of competing. It's hard enough already for smaller markets. Laker fans would rejoice though.

Has nothing to do with the players union... it’s the owners who wouldn’t allow it.

Spoiler:
You mean as opposed to having him maxed out for another few years and he might not be the same player? And one year deals do not mean there’s a 50/50 chance he’d leave or stay you filthy Arab , it all depends on the individual player, how much they want to stay where they’re at, how much the team wants him there, etc.

I mean I did state in my OP it’d never happen. Hypothetically in this scenario I do think the salary cap would keep things somewhat under control, maybe even a hard cap. Guess it depends on how many players would want to take paycuts to team up and how many would like to run the show with their own team.

Lol @ LNS trying to back peddle out of this stupid idea. Literally neither the players union nor the owners would approve of this stupid rule, each for their respective reasons.

True. But marquee franchises like the Lakers, everything else being equal, could attract players for less than Minnesota or Memphis for example. A hard cap would even that out some, but never enough.LNS wrote:vcsgrizzfan wrote:As long as there is a NBA players' union, it will never be more than a hypothetical. I never said the idea would get approved you dirty Afghany. That’s why I put “what if” in the title and literally said I know it’d never happen because the player’s union would have a shit fit.

C’mon now Loss..... there’s a reason we all voted you worst poster on AngerGeneral, there’s a reason you’re on the outside looking in when it comes to Certified Lakers fans, there’s a reason your own family IRL wants nothing to do with you, there’s a reason you eat alone at bars and restaurants....
Now you go ahead and think about what that reason might be and then get back to me about it, fella.

Stay wrong, little bitch. It’s no wonder you work grave yard shifts in a factory... you have the IQ of a remedial dumbass. But keep trying to convince us you’re more than that... what with your exaggerated taste in art and literature compensating for the fact that your career is that reserved for ex cons and high school drop outs... keep trying to convince us tho that you can come home and play Mozart’s symphony flawlessly... ahhh yes you’re our version of Matt Damon’s Good Will Hunting... We’re not fooled at all by your schtick, carry on.LNS wrote:wisdomafterall wrote:LNS wrote:

Re: What if one year deals in the NBA were mandatory?
So did you figure out the reason yet, Loss?
I’ll help you out: it’s because you’re a fucking unlikeable loser.
No family, no friends, and no one here gives a fuck about you. DO NOT kill yourself, okay?

Ok. Thanks for your advice and concern, coming from the avid boxing fan and trainer who can’t even protect his own from a flock of geese.LNS wrote:So did you figure out the reason yet, Loss?
