2001 Lakers

OP, please add the 15-1 Lakers to your list and remove the 2000 Lakers. It's throwing a lot of people off.

Their time is coming... but it's not there yet. The 15-2 Bulls from 1991 aren't on the list and they even had a better regular season than the 2001 Lakers had.

:biggums:

2001 Lakers are considered the best of the Shaq/Kobe teams. They steamrolled the Spurs, Kings, and Trailblazers, and their one loss was in OT.

15-1. 12.8 point differential in the wins. But you think "their time is coming"? Lol okay.

72 Lakers. The 33-game win streak, two other 8-game win streaks, and one of the last successful teams to average 120ppg. And did it with a brand new coach in place, too.

So we just ignore their 56 wins compared to 67 the year before and their drop from 1st to 21st in defense? I mean this has to factor into the equation somewhere.

We ignore their shitty regular season, yes. It's no big secret they slept through the reg season, before turning it up several notches in the PO's. They honestly should've swept the post season, but had one fluke loss in OT to the Sixers cuz AI went into god mode for one game.

And I'll say 72 Lakers if the 2001 Lakers aren't on the table

Regular season does come into play sure, but one big difference for me was how close the 2000 team came to blowing a 3-1 lead and being eliminated. Had the Blazers had a true closer on that team who could hit a couple shots during the Lakers 4th quarter run that 2000 team would have been toast. No what ifs at all with the 2001 team, which dominated the playoffs probably more than any team ever, and even wrecked a great champion Spurs team along the way.

I really try not to treat every returning roster and its circumstances as inherent but it's hard not to give the 1972 Lakers an edge over the defending champion 1971 Bucks when they dethroned them in the WCF in 6 games.

Closing out the series on the Bucks homecourt no less.

Oscar Robertson scored a whopping TWO points in an elimination game. But In fairness, the abdominal injury really hampered what he could do, playing less than 10 minutes that game.

I'll take that '72 Lakers squad.

Still don't get the '08 Celtics being an option. The '99 Spurs were better than that team, and they don't belong on this list yet either.

It was a tough decision to make but i will go with the 1967 76ers. Dispatching the mighty Celtics in 5 games, 68-13 regular season record, playoff record of 12-4, and a balanced scoring load that allowed Wilt Chamberlain's overall game to blossom was convincing enough to me to take them over the 72 Lakers and 65 Celtics.
