He actually put together some pretty solid teams on a budget. I think the did a pretty solid job in the front office...He was simply handcuffed by the lack of appeal the Pacers are to free agents, and an owner who isn't willing to pay a penny in luxury tax...

I agree.

Bird will always be one of the best basketball minds who could succeed at any position he's given.

Yep. What other guy has had as much success at all three levels of an organization?

- HOF player. Top 7 all time.
- COY. 147 - 67 (68.7%) as coach... 32 - 20 (61.5% in playoffs)
- Executive of Year.

Bird got out early as a player. Early as a coach. Early as an executive. He's only 60... and accomplished all that.

GOAT.

Oh, and then there's that little detail of him pretty much singlehandedly (small assist to Magic) saving the NBA from extinction....

Will he take another GM job elsewhere? If yes, where?

I'd take him in Chicago NOW!!!

America was turning their back on a league that was perceived to be a bunch of coked up black showboating...The NBA needed the greatest (white) player in the history of the NBA to come in and bring back WHITE America, and corporate America. Magic played a great villain to Larry, and the history they had in college was nice, but Larry was the reason.

It's hilarious. The ugly truth is, when it mattered, Bird failed when facing Magic everytime but once.

The reality is, Bird, despite an inferior team, won 3 titles in someone elses era...The Lakers were always more talented, yet Larry still got it done.
