So a 5th Superbowl would make Tom Brady the undisputed GOAT, right?

Talk about anything here.

Don't lump all of us together please.

Some of us have enough self awareness to put our "glory days" out of the equation.
Says the guy who calls Bill Russell the greatest LOL...
And Ruth is the greatest baseball player of all time. Objective data supports both. My "glory days" definitely weren't the 20s or 60s..

You have the self awareness of a brick though, almost on a level with TDK on some of your takes so I'm not surprised.

Psssst... hey numb nuts... are you really going to compare the impact that one -1- player has in the NBA (where it's 5 on 5) vs. the NFL?

You bring up alcohol when it's obvious you've had far too many already... either that or you're completely clueless (or both).

And again... anyone who knows anything about football will tell you that the games are won in the trenches (ie; the O/D Lines).
The game is largely won on the line. That's true.

Most everything else you've posted in this thread has been drunk ramblings.
Translation... ^^^^.... TDK just slapped my dumb ass silly.

Objective data supports that Bill Russell was mediocre offensively, and played with BY FAR more HOFers than any other player in history, in a league that consisted of only a few teams...Winning a bunch of titles when you had by far the best team against what, 6 or 7 other teams LOL? Yea, very objective...

What are you two babbling about?

It's perfectly possible for a GOAT in a sport to have played in a previous era.

The issue isn't crediting someone in the past, it's giving extra and exaggerated weight to them, especially if it coincides with your personal fandom/age/etc.

Ruth is unquestionably the greatest baseball player ever (peer-to-peer). It's not "glory dayism" to note that. I note that. Any baseball fan with a brain would.

Ditto with Russell to a lesser degree. Although his case for GOAT isn't as clean as Ruth's, the same principle applies.

Bottom line: Try to be objective. Don't drink to excess.

I've always felt that way about the Saints but not the Falcons. But looking at splits they seem to be a juggernaut home and away this season.

I agree, Falcons have been just as good away this year. Plus Houston has a retractable rooof so they may very well be playing in a dome in the SB anyways

Jordan has a better case for GOAT than any NBA player... IF we're being objective.

Ruth is hands-down the greatest ML player ever... the NFL is significantly tougher to name a GOAT, but Montana certainly AND clearly is right-there in the discussion on the very, very short list of GOAT QB's

Russell is barely Top 5 all-time among Centers (Jabbar, Wilt, Shaq, Dream, in no order...)... no chance he's the GOAT 'player'. That's just old geezers like grizz living in the glory days.

Russell has more of a clam to GOAThood than Kareem + Wilt + Shaq + Dream have of all being rated over Russell. The only player on your little list with a halfway decent argument is Kareem. Let alone all of them.

Point is, a person can consider Russell the GOAT for reasons that have nothing to do with glory daysism (even if you ultimately disagree with the position). You can think a person's position is ultimately incorrect, but still have a correct understanding of *why* they hold that position.

I see, so it is ridiculous to think that Montana is the greatest, but not ridiculous to think Russell is the greatest LOL...

Neither one is ridiculous.

How you get to that position may or may not be ridiculous, and illustrates your glory dayism.

So, in other words, you don't exactly disagree, you just didn't want to miss the chance to deepthroat Grizz?

7 superbowls for Brady and he's had absolutely nothing for WR's in comparison with some of the greats like Montana. I cant imagine how he'd have done if he had HOF WR's instead of tomato cans.

You can agree with a conclusion while acknowledging the methods to get there are flawed. I'm not enough of a football fan to have a strong opinion about a fine-distinction like Brady vs. Montana, but I'm enough of one to recognize terrible arguments.

Person 1: The moon is made of bacon
Person 2: The moon isn't made of bacon. God made the moon, and God is a vegetarian. Therefore, the moon is not made of bacon.
Me: Person 2 is right, but there isn't even evidence of God, let alone God's dietary preferences.

I hope that makes sense.

BS... people (grizz and others) dismiss George Mikan's career because of his "era", yet these same people refuse to hold it against Russell for playing alongside 5-6-7 other HOFERS in an era where all the other teams (a whopping 8-10 in the entire league) had 2 or 3 HOFERS on the roster.

So yeah... anyone who holds Mikan's era against him should do the same with Russell IF they're being objective.
