i dont care if he played solid defense. the guy was last on his team in scoring for game 7
havlicek 26 points
jones 24 points
bryant 20 points
nelson 16 points
howell 9 points
siegfried 7 points
russell 6 points
He finished 7th in MVP voting that season, his lowest of his career (as voted by the players by the way) but by far the best of any Celtic and made Wilt 1-7 against him for his career in the playoffs.
After he retired, the Celtics gave up ten points more per game (after having the best defensive rating in the NBA, which happened 12 of Russell's 13 seasons) and went from championship to lottery. Russell was always the best player on his team, including the two collegiate championship years at USF that wasn't even on the map before him.
there was like 10 teams
finishing 7th in mvp voting would be like finishing 25th today
and i said "last performance" i.e. game... not last season
russell was subpar in game 7... 6 points is 4 under his season average.
sure he played good defense. but wilt wasn't even trying to score
and think of it this way.. 20 rebounds in the 60s is like 12 rebounds today
while 60 points today is like scoring 100 back then

you're a very poor troll. You were served your humble pie. Now time for you to scoot. You've had your history lesson for today.

only on angergeneral would someone say 6 points in 1969 > 60 points in 2016 due to rebounds/defense
For a guy playing on one Achilles, in his 20th season, who had unproven rookies and cast offs for teammates, being able to turn back the clock one last time and put on a vintage 60pt performance for his last game was pure magic. I know the Kobe haters will disagree and I know Griff has a tendency to annoy people, but he's right in this case.
