Australian Open 2018

Americans getting BTFO'd all over the place today, disappointing stuff from Sock after closing 2017 so nicely.

Just have to ask. How did you get so involved in tennis? Did you play the game?

What kind of dumb question is that? Why does anyone appreciate any sport?

I haven't played in a non-casual way since high school (2013-2016) - like all of my other rooting interests, I just followed whatever my Dad followed growing up which is why I have no knowledge of or interest in college sports.

Sometimes, I just can't resist pointing out the obvious.

It's the same thing when I call out some of Artism's most obvious lies.

Oh we know you can't resist me, my athletic prowess and my athletic body, Abe. There's a reason you adopted this shtick versus me after I swept the MCS beauty pageant

Really was an awful day for Americans all round in the first day. One out of nine on the women's side and Sock and Isner out on the men's side. Going to kill the tv numbers although with half the matches in the middle of the night...

KUB.... Shapovalov had a strong first match.

The quarter that Isner was knocked out of is now a total joke.

Didn't see Shapovalov today but great challenge next with the Tsonga re-match. As must-see as it gets for round 2.

Raonic looks like shit. A little out of shape and not the slightest bit sharp.

He just got worse. Disappointing. I know he's barely played the last 7 months because of injury, but the last one and big one was his wrist, not something that would make staying in shape that hard. He looked like he put on fifteen pounds from the Aussie Open last year...

Pretty pathetic but last season he started off encouragingly, maybe this year will be the inverse.

Novak is going to be a handful. It is pretty impressive that his serve speed is basically back given the modified form. If he takes out Monfils with ease I will really start to view him as a favorite.

15 year old named Kostyuk has advanced to the third round on the women's side without dropping a set so far?

Shapovalov coming up next on that court....

Edit: Shapovalov is up a break in the first set,3-1, should be 4-0...

Great first set for Shapovalov but Tsonga looks to be waking up in the second set....

Edit... Shapovalov is broken in the second set, in part because of an I'll timed double fault...

Edit... then crushes Tsonga in the third set. Up two sets to one....

Nail biter extraordinaire between Shapovalov and Tsonga. Going to the fifth set....

Edit: Shapovalov blows two break points to go up 2-0....but cashes in the third!!!!!

Shapovalov was serving for the match at 5-3 in the third and gagged it, then gagged again at 5-5. Very disappointing....

Disappointing, but a heck of a match!

True. And the kid is only 18 and bursting with talent. I think he's the type that learns from it. I think if he doesn't suffer injuries, he's a top ten player within 24-36 months.
