The nominees are a mess.
87 Lakers, 83 Sixers, 92 Bulls, but the 2015 Warriors and 2000 Lakers?
ROFL what
08 Celtics aren't this high either.

I will go 96 Bulls here but we REALLY need to add those 65 win champ teams next round.

Yeah all those should be added.dwcmwa wrote:The nominees are a mess.

'86 Celtics.

Those 3 teams will be added as this list shrinks a tad.Odogg wrote:Yeah all those should be added.dwcmwa wrote:The nominees are a mess.

@Havlicekstealsit, what's your case with choosing the Celtics over the Bulls?Havlicekstealsit wrote:'86 Celtics.

2001 Lakers, dude. I think I'd know which of the Kobe/Shaq teams was considered the best. 99-00 Lakers? Dafuq??
Don't get me wrong, the 2000 squad was still legit, but it's the 2001 squad that stands out.

Not including the playoffs:y2ktors wrote:@Havlicekstealsit, what's your case with choosing the Celtics over the Bulls?Havlicekstealsit wrote:'86 Celtics.
Finished first or second in 13 offensive/defensive categories.
Balanced scoring - 5 guys in double figures.
Five win streaks of 8 games or more.
40-1 at home.
31 straight home Ws
Haven't checked the Bulls sked, but teams in the 80s played a lot of back to backs. '86 Celts played 27.

'86 Celtics.
Bird at his absolute peak (if I'm not mistaken, it was the summer after that chip that he wrecked his back--doing his Mom's driveway himself, of all things.) McHale was basically unstoppable on the block. As you pointed out the other day, they were top 3 in both offense and defense that year. As complete a team as ever has laced 'em up.
Also, wasn't that the year the ice was melting under the floor in the Garden? During the FInals? Made the parquet all slippery.

With all due respect to the 86 Celtics
96 Bulls - 72 wins, 12 ppg differential, Better Defensive team, More athletic with the GOAT player and closer.

Just checked the '96 Bulls.
27 back to back games for the 86 Celtics, 23 for the Bulls. Not a big difference but still worth noting. Nowadays we've got fans complaining if their team has ten B2Bs - this years Cavs had 18.

Not to mention just in their conference alone the 86 Celtics had to play the likes of Barkley, Ewing, Jordan, Dominique, Moses and Isiah among others. Three other teams in the east won 50 games compared to two for the 96 Bulls EC. Celtics had to beat two 50+ win teams in the playoffs to Chicago's one.

Tough call, but 86 Celts over the 96 Bulls by a nose.
Re: 2017 AG Greatest NBA Teams of All-Time #2
Can't have 86 Celtics without other great teams from that era such as 83 Sixers and 87 Lakers who beat the same team a year later albeit a banged up version. 83 Sixers may have the best combo of reg season and playoff dominance outside of 17 Warriors.y2ktors wrote:Those 3 teams will be added as this list shrinks a tad.Odogg wrote:Yeah all those should be added.dwcmwa wrote:The nominees are a mess.
