Finally broke down and hired a maid this morning

Post by swampgator »

I've gotten too lazy to keep the house up, so we contracted a maid to come 3 times a week.

It probably costs 15 cents an hour.

Three times a week seems drastic.

That's ridiculously pathetic.

A cleaning maid in Austin probably cost no more than 20 or $30 per visit

There's a dozen cleaning ladies on craigslist out here in Cali like $50 a visit

I'm sure those pots and pans cost more than that

You live in China so yeah. I'm not insinuating though. I said it clearly.
You are clearly mistaken.

Hey swampy, what you make is none of my business, but with your experience as an overseas educator, I'm sure you have some good knowledge of the average wages for that kind of work. So what would you say a guy teaching kids English in South Korea would make for a part time 4-hours-a-day gig?

Just curious.

Given that the requisite skill set is "know how to speak English", something a billion people know how to do, I imagine it's not a whole lot.

$7 an hour sounds about right.
Whatever, pal.

That's not too shabby for 4 hours a day, actually.

Edit: actually, that doesn't sound right lol. I did the math, and if he's getting 4 hours a week times five days, that's 80 hours a month. $3,000 divided by 80 hours is $37.50 an hour, which I find hard to believe.

It isn't far fetched. What he does pays well for what it is. He also travels 2-3 hours a day to get to work so that should be factored in as well.

I do something a little different.

Yeah, you are right. We changed it to 2 times a week at 2 hours per. She will take Gator out for walks as well.
