The best vacation trip you have ever taken

Post by swampgator »

I ask because I've got 6 weeks vacay coming up in 6 weeks. I wanted to go home, but mrs swamp needs to stay here for work. I might go somewhere alone.

Mine is a 3 week Vietnam to Cambodia and to Laos trip back in 2009.

NZ sounds interesting as a mountain biking destination. I'll cover LA when back home.

That sounds awesome, rob. Mrs swamp and I have yet to take a proper honeymoon even though we've been married over 4 years. This break might be the time to do it.

Oh okay....So if you don't mind, I have a couple of more questions....How is life there for you and how long did it take you to adapt to the culture? I find you being there kinda fascinating...

I heard all that smelly, overrated stuff about Venice before we went.
I didn't notice the smell. And the tiny corridors all throughout the city were just so unique with such a cool vibe that I really dug that city. You're walking down these tiny little walkways/alleys and could just sneak into a restaurant for food and wine. Might have been my favorite place in Italy thus far. But Rome, Florence and Venice each offers its unique diversity. Rome has all the history stuff. Florence has the art. And Venice has the vibe.

I've heard Cinque Terra is awesome, too.

Puerto Rico for 10 days with my wife before we had kids. Also, Disneyland for a week when our oldest was 3 and half. My mom was with us and my sister and her kids met up later in the week. Disneyland is a whole new world when you take young kids. Especially if that kid was really into Princesses at the time.

Puerto Rico, we were thinking of taking a trip there and heading over to Flamenco Beach i believe. Small little island right off the east side. Looks beautiful.

I've slept on Flamenco beach. It's been rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you go to Puerto Rico, tell me. I'll set you up with a pretty fun agenda.

1. French Polynesia - Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora. We hit the Billabong Pro tour surfing event at Teahupoo. We were towed out to watch the event up close and had Kelly Slater chilling next to us as he awaited his turn. Ate lunch at decent spot that was ran by some hilarious tranny's. They were really good people, busted us up. Wanting to hit as much as possible on the islands and get lost in the culture, we ended up sleeping in the car a couple of nights while other nights we stayed in hostels. You meet fascinating, interesting, and great people when staying in hostels. We got to know folk from Europe, South Africa, the Pacific, and Asia. We hitch hiked in Moorea and a local gave us an amazing tour of the island. Snorkeled, scuba dived, and kayaked Bora Bora. Absolutely stunning island. Did the markets and Les Roulottes at Place Vaiete. Amazing experience.

2 - Rio de Janeiro/Buzios, Maragogi, Maceio.
3 - New Zealand
4 - Australia - would probably be ranked 1, but as I lived there a few years prior to vacationing there a few times, it feels more like I'm going home than on vacation.
