Remember when "no cavities" was so awesome to hear?

Post by AbeVigodaLive »

Went to the dentist. No cavities.

I thought, "Of course not." It's not like I'm a fat tub of good sitting around all day eating crap food and getting my water shut off so I can't brush my teeth like Artman.

I still haven't ever had a cavity.

I cut out candy & soda so I've been cavity-free since I was a kid. Granted there's some fillings in back that have since fallen out, but #YOLO.

I was wondering who would post this first and your name was the first I thought of. Don't know why but you seem like one that doesn't get cavities.

Mom was a dental hygienist so it formed good habits for me I guess.

Both my sisters got one in the past couple of years so it's a badge of honor of sorts.

Gross teeth are a major turn off to me, especially with wimminz.

It takes relatively little effort to hit an acceptable standard. If you can't get there, it's a sign of a mental or emotional issue, IMO.

Fun Fact: There is a direct correlation between the number of cavities a dentist "finds" and the amount of debt she/he needs to pay off.

Pro Tip: Find an old dentist who's looking to downsize, hates to travel, and is debt free.

Under my old job I had an out of network dental insurance. The dentist always seemed to find something wrong each visit. Then I changed jobs, and the dental insurance was then in network. Haven't heard anything wrong since.

My dad didn't go to the dentist for about 15 years. Went to get his wisdom teeth removed when he was 50! There were no other problems... no cavities. Started going every year... got a cavity.

[Note: It was 3.5 years since I had been to the dentist. Yes, flossing seems to help.]

Yes, finding a good dentist is like finding a good mechanic.

Really important because of the information asymmetry and criticality of what they are working on to normal life.

Speaking of dentists... I read awhile back that dentists are more likely to commit suicide than just about any other profession.

I have a college buddy who's now a dentist and just moved back to Minnesota. He came to a party at our house a few weeks ago and somebody asked him whether he dug his job. Even if you don't like your job/career, usually you give it a "Yeah, it's alright. It's fine." or something, right? Especially when you committed THAT much money and time on it, you probably want to justify it to yourself.

Anyway, his reply was "No. Not really. No. It's actually not very good." Considering he's being well-rewarded financially for his choice of careers, that must be one shitty job.

Do you drink it with a straw? Much better for your teeth that way too.

I was about to make the same comparison.

I sometimes feel like I paid to help my dentist move into the new fancy building he's in.

I like my dentist a lot. I hate needles so dentists aren't my favorite places to go but this guy is alright. He does have a thing with replacing all my old silver fillings. He always tells me it's my choice but reminds me they'll go bad someday.
