The results are in. Due to a tie in the run-off vote, both Bill Walton and Dwight Howard were voted as the #32 greatest post-merger players of all-time.

Pau 18/9/3/2 PER 22, 2 2nd dog rings.

Parish 15/9/1/2 PER 19, ? 2nd dog rings.

I just don't see where Parish's edge in defense bridges the large edge in stats and playoff performance that Pau has.

Pau's playoff PER is 21 vs 16 for Parish. That's quite a large gap my friends.

This will be quick, because I got to run.

1. Gasol's playoff years where he played the bulk of his games took place in the ages usually associated with peak performance. On the other hand, Parish not only played way more playoff games, he played them all over the age range, with roughly 40 games taking place past the age Gasol is now.

2. It's better to look at *ranks* as opposed to raw values when comparing PER across eras.

3. In my eyes, there isn't a *radical* difference between them in terms of peak performance (Parish has 3 top 10 PER ranks, Gasol has 2), in general hardware (Parish has 9 AS games to Gasol's 5--although played in a tougher era position-wise, all-nbas not amazingly difference, etc...), or team success via role (neither did anything as a lead dog, both won multiple rings in a major secondary role, etc....

4. Where I *do* think they part ways is on a career front in volume statistics. Parish is 7th all time in rebounds, Gasol barely inches into the top 50. Parish is 26th in points, Gasol is 64th, Parish is better on blocks, etc....

I don't Gasol makes up that type of gap in the other areas we usually discuss. YMMV (I do think Gasol is a reasonable choice for this spot though).

I beg your pardon, Reggie is 2nd all-time in 3-point field goals, is one of the clutchest players ever, led Indiana for years and years to high seeds and the playoffs every year.
