Fail..I was never ever into those bands or metal...it was actually more of a white trash thing...which I am not.

80's rock was garbage. Beyond terrible.

Eh..it was all called rock back then...for the most part.
They were all in the same section at the record stores..there wasnt raly any catagories...before your time.
Was basically
Rock...which had everything from new wave to hard core(if you could find it) to metal some rap..all pop etc...
Soundtracks
Country
Classical
R&B...which usually included rap or anything black people listened to
Childrens music.

For other shit tou went to specialty record stores that would have all the punk or hardcore and reggea etc...seperated and a much larger variety.

Either way..you could always find what you wanted...the good stores all had record player stations or dvd stations later on..where you could wear the big headphones and listen before you bought the music.
Was far more interactive back then and fun..trips to the record store were great

And now we have access to millions of songs from hundreds of different genres right from the comfort of our homes without having to go to the record store and seeing (and smelling) weird people like you.
You never liked me, probably don't like me still, but a ***** liking me aint never paid my bills
