My stats since December 1, I blocked out my follower count. Now it looks like my engagement rate is bad but it only dropped off because I used to reply extremely rarely/selectively/opportunistically so naturally there's a big dip when I start to be active. According to Grok: For smaller accounts (under 10,000 followers), an engagement rate of around 1% to 2% is often considered good, with rates above 2% being excellent.



Here are some of my learnings,

Posting to your timeline with less than 1,000 active followers is like whistling in the wind. This is not what X is for for 99.5% of users
The places to be active are replies and communities that aren't too big
Share community posts to your main timeline so that if someone visits your profile it looks like you get legit engagement on non-replies
You need to be fast in replies, if you haven't replied within an hour of a post your chances are kneecapped, and just forget it altogether after 6 hours
Including media in replies can only help, even if it's some stupid gif
Quote replies don't seem nearly as effective as direct replies but I probably haven't experimented enough with quote replies yet
Including the right Grok image to accompany your reply is like a hack, like something owning LeBron or Joe Biden, as long as it's vaguely relevant
X premium reply boost is legit. You have no chance without a blue check now. I'm guessing upgrading to the top level of premium is even more impactful but I'm not about to pay for that
You need to try to dumb yourself down for the masses. Your most clever replies are probably never going to hit as well as the more obvious ones. Most of your audience will be normies and not internet savants like we have on AG
If you really want to go try hard, turn on notifications for accounts that you know you can be clever in the replies of so you can reply within 1-3 minutes
Replying to accounts that are too big is a waste of time. The sweet spot is 50,000 to 1,000,000 followers I think. Replying to accounts like Elon is a huge waste of time
Polls are like media in that they attract more engagement. It's always a good idea to start a poll if you have a decent idea for one
Tons of what I thought were legitimate accounts are actually just engagement farms re-posting the same memes

If you go blue check and put in 5-10 percent effort, you will start to build traction. Your only problem might be you're too smart and your references too obscure for most people and will need to dumb yourself down a little for X

Tbh seeing my performance I am kind of upset at myself that I didn't start this 10 years ago when I had more time. By now I would probably be at like a CatTurd or DC Draino level of account and getting paid nicely to shitpost on the side. Although I would have for sure gotten banned along the way, to be fair.

I don't think I have the mental energy to keep pushing harder, the dopamine hit of 100 likes on X doesn't equal one 'lol' on AG. But we will see where things go.
