Turns out it’s actually the MLB that would be dead without Japs.

MLB seeing exponential growth in terms of revenue Japan does not mean MLB *needs* Japan lol. MLB generated more revenue than NBA even before this astronomical spike in Japanese interest, now it is going to continue to pull away. It's the NBA whose bottom line is propped up by China just to try to get close to MLB's level.

Between what is happening in Japan and the Mets establishing themselves as an October fixture in the biggest market and with the most fervent fanbase, MLB is in amazing shape in terms of TV numbers in the playoffs.
