Why have we survived for as long as we have?

Post by Titan18 »

The ESPN nfl board thread got me thinking. We are probably the last spin offs of the old ESPN board that is still somewhat active. Sure we are down to maybe 15-20 active users but still have decent conversation flow on a day to day basis. MSC is a dead zone and that nfl board has like 3 posts this year that Leoss linked to.

So begs the question, why did we survive this long? I’ll be honest I thought this place would be long gone within 2-3 years after we migrated.

Is it because

1) We are general misfits unable to assimilate anywhere else?
2) Do we like each other moreso than we may care to admit?
3) Is it Artman?
4) something else?

What says you?

All the above. We are all, predictable in most topics.

Multitude of topics helps. Bit of an echo chamber but that’s not a terrible thing. Titty twisting Artman. And maybe just a bit of stubbornness.

Edit: and genuinely… I find most of you hilarious. Like I’ve had full blown uncontrollable laughter a few times. Hard to get that nowadays.

It’s because we’ve evolved together over time and share a unique bond that has niched ourselves our own little culture with our own language that may seem odd to any outsider, but we all understand each other to a degree. Plus, with how well rounded we collectively are, we’re the cool kids on campus who have mostly become resistant to top flight trolling due to the highly efficient trolling we perform on each other. Basically we’re like Deion Sanders covering Jerry Rice every practice, making each other better that by Sunday gameday nobody’s on our level. We on the same winning team.

Great points all around and you’re 100% on the trolling aspect. I’ve had people try to troll me on other platforms and it’s like I’m wearing a bulletproof vest.

What you said here is one of the biggest reasons that I come back.

I've been in tears laughing from exchanges between some of y'all.

For most of us it's probably the $425 monthly stipend that FPLIII sends out I suppose.

But overall i enjoy most of the interactions here giving eachother shit, and talking sports. though some days it's especially stale.

Believe it or not, God has chosen you to stay in contact with me. The end of the age is soon, and the coming tribulation is going to be crazy, but you will remember the preaching I've done on it after I'm raptured.

Some of you will get saved in that day, some of you will remain stubborn.

Time will tell.

Yes.

Edit: For me, I sort of feel stuck between different worlds online and it's hard to find a place that combines sports, humor, slice of life nonsense, with a certain level of intimacy and political incorrectness/non-stupidity.

For me, it's like a Wal-Mart/Target of things I like online, and I deal almost exclusively with people I like and appreciate. There are some high-level things I might want elsewhere, but everything else...it's here.

I'm not here nearly as often as in years past but for me it's a reminder of those days on the NBA General board. We'll never get back to that level with how social media has evolved since those days. But atleast we can still share memories of those days.

We allow discussion about almost everything here and we all know each other well enough that we're not just strangers. I've been talking with most of you since the 2011 range, so 13+ years.

If you post on Reddit, you are narrowed to the topic of that specific Reddit page and you probably don't know any of the other posters on that site.
