Shaq is the man, but you can clearly tell from this and other interviews he really resents today's players getting money that dwarfs his era, and is probably calibrating today's money+performance standards to his era's combination.

Which is understandable in a sense, but Rudy Gobert will make the 15th most money in 2025, and was in the 91st and 94th percentile of EPM and EW in 2024. That's not *wildly* disconnected, although yes probably overpaid to some extent.

Even this year, Bradley Beal will make the 5th most money, but was only in the 81st percentile in EPM last year.

In 1991, Danny Ferry was the 7th highest paid player in the NBA, and averaged a robust 9 points and 4 rebounds a game.

If Gobert is underperforming his contract (and he probably is), it ain't by *that* much.

There's a lot of that going on in sports, I've seen it from plenty of baseball boomer retirees like David Wells and Jonathan Papelbon for example.
