Virtually all good teams are built that way. The 90s bulls are classic examples. Yes they had MJ and Pippen, but they absolutely needed guys like Horace Grant and Denis Rodman to round things out. Guys like Kukoc and BJ Armstrong and Harper were also underrated players who made the puzzle all fit together nicely. In the 90s, when competition was relatively weak (compared to the prior decade in particular) they were a mismatch for virtually everyone. Draymond Green on the Warriors is a much better version but the same idea. People make fun of his weaknesses, but his strengths were integral to their success. They needed Draymond to be great.

In today's NBA, with so many teams stacked with talent (though it doesn't always fit well together), you absolutely need to have really good role players and some depth or you are hooped (pardon the pun).
