On another note, it just occurred to me: I wonder if this is an intricate cover-up, and the real issue is Ohtani got busted for PED abuse... which is a more serious offense than gambling away a small fraction of his money (relatively speaking of course)??



I mean, it's pretty obvious the NBA has been covering up for LeFraud's PED abuse, so it's very possible we could be looking at something similar here with MLB and Ohtani.

When I taught lower-level statistics, gambling was a great backdrop to illustrate how to think about probability and numerical fallacies (like the gambler's fallacy).

It is really, really difficult for humans to think about probability correctly in a system where emotions and feelings exist and have a meaningful hold. Even outside those things, our intuition for probability is basically shit unless its specifically and intentionally trained.
