Hoop Junkies.

Post by Da Stars. »

Why did it take 15 years for the team that lead the league in 3 point attempt to win a championship. Why did it take the league another 10 plus years to completely adopt a 3 point shot into the teams offense.

2009 magic legitimatized the 3 point shot dominant team as one who could contend. The start of the shift happened due to the 2009 magic...but they were an elite defensive team too as well as a 6'10" point forward. Untraditional at the time that traditional teams struggle matching up with and led to successes

But why did it take 30 years from the time it was first introduced to the NBA.

The Orlando Magic in 09 were number two in 3 point shots. Houston Rockets in 94 was number one.

Coaches from the old NBA thought the 3pt shot was an ABA gimmick and didn't include it in their playbooks, not to mention the NCAA didn't use it until 85 or 86. So guys like MJ, Bird, Reggie never got that luxury when they were college kids.

Imho I thought the Sacramento kings of the 2000s sparked the run and gun 3 point shooting era

The late 2000s-early 2010s Knicks were right up there in 3pt shooting but Rafa wants you to believe it was strictly the Magic who set the standard. The numbers are right there, look em up.

How many finals or even conference finals did those knicks make that legitimatized it made other teams take notice it could work and changed the way the game was played?

Thats what I thought
