"Lebron doesn’t guard for a full game and our game plan was to get him to play defense and he left me open all game."

- Michael Porter Jr. on his recent 10-10 shooting performance with LeFraud guarding him. Porter Jr. is also shooting 65% from long-range when LeFraud (ahem) defends him.

Side note: I'm guessing guys like Kobe and MJ would have been able to play productively to age 45 if they didn't have to play Defense for half their careers.

Jordan could barely play productively until age 30 without needing a mental break!

Yeah he needed a mental break so bad that he decided to remain smack in the middle of the media/public spotlight and go play another professional sport.

:L

Silly rob... sometimes when you rush so fast to the defense of LeFraud you don't think your posts through all the way. It's okay though, there is nothing wrong with admitting that your hero has a TON of flaws, and after 21 seasons of being afforded more coddling, conveniences and breaks than any player in NBA history he still hasn't been able to reach the summit of Mount Jordan.

RETIRED AT 30!

That's all that needs to be known. Your hero needed a break in the middle of his prime. He had to go play AA baseball in Birmingham, Alabama!

How do you figure "taking a mental break" from the media/public = playing another professional sport? If anything the spotlight was even brighter for MJ.

Yeah....the spotlight playing AA ball in Birmingham, Alabama was definitely brighter than it would be in Chicago, in the NBA.

There was literally zero pressure in playing baseball. It was playing with house money, because no one with a brain expected him to succeed and only dorks and mean-spirited people would criticize him (unlike basketball where his rep was literally on the line all the time).

He basically went to summer fantasy camp in the sticks to escape the constant pressure and anxiety of big city NBA ball+expectations. Not unlike those major CEOs who go to his basketball fantasy camp to live a sport dream and escape the pressures of daily life where they are actually expected to perform.

The spotlight remained VERY bright on MJ in Chicago, considering he was playing for the White Sox organization. Thus, no super high-profile athlete like Jordan is going to start playing another professional sport (for the team that is based in the city where he resides) IF he "needs a mental break". On the contrary, said athlete is going to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible... and that clearly was not the case with Jordan.

In other words you got nothing.

And...?

So you think a global icon (who retired from basketball at the top of his game to start playing another professional sport) is not going to attract loads of media coverage/public awareness because he's in Birmingham?

If MJ was truly "needing" a mental break he would have spent his time chillin' on a private Golf course, smokin' stogies on some secluded island somewhere, and spending time with his family (to recharge the batteries and regain his focus), not hitting baseballs and catching flyballs for the hometown White Sox organization.

Silly rob...

I'm sure playing in front of 8,500 fans a night was pretty taxing.
