The impending Durant free agency bonanza should start picking up steam next season and will undoubtedly engulf the NBA in the summer of 2016. And make no mistake: the Nets are targeting Durant, the 25-year-old offensive juggernaut, even if it’s too early to predict their odds.
The Nets could be committed to no salary when Durant becomes a free agent, depending on whether Deron Williams picks up his one-year option for the 2016-17 season. Everybody else is off the books.

Why wouldn't Deron Williams pick up that year...?
Re: Nets setting sights on Durant free agency in 2016
See Melo situation (opting out in hopes of more money in the long term). Also depending on how Deron does (if he picks up his play) it may be beneficial for him to opt out in 2016 when everyone will be clearing cap space for Durant. Teams who lose out on Durant may scamble to pick up something and Williams could be a huge beneficiary.AbeVigodaLive wrote:Why wouldn't Deron Williams pick up that year...?Buckets wrote:The impending Durant free agency bonanza should start picking up steam next season and will undoubtedly engulf the NBA in the summer of 2016. Deron will be 33/34 around that time though, and he seems like he might be breaking down a little already, so I doubt he'll be opting out as he probably would be making less per year if he does. But like you said, it's too early to tell at the moment and he might pick things up.Buckets wrote:See Melo situation (opting out in hopes of more money in the long term). I don't think he would want any part of that rebuilding project, considering he's on the cusp of winning now.
