Disney furloughed almost 45,000 employees on April 19th. That's only two weeks without checks, but that will get ugly fast.

The article explains the structural issues. When an economy has a significant portion tied to tourism like Vegas and Orlando, recessions have deeper effects. That was shown in 2008 in both cities where foreclosure rates dwarfed national averages.

It's because many of the jobs are relatively low paying and more prone to layoffs on average during a recession. In this case, the recession is pandemic induced and more directly linked to the pandemic than an overall economic slowdown so you are correct about that part.
