I'd put Ruth and Williams ahead of him no question... after that it's debatable among a handful of guys (ie; Mantle, Mays, etc).

Overall no higher than #3 and no lower than #6-7.

Sporting News ranked him 3rd in 1998 (although with a obvious nostalgia bias).

Personally, the only players I would feel comfortable ranking over him would be Ruth, Bonds, and Mays.

With another handful being contestable either way.
