Thoughts on 241?

It was a great card, at least by modern standards.

Stipe did (eventually) what I expected him to do in the first fight. But his striking defense has started to atrophy noticeably from his peak. He was getting pieced up early on by a quite-clearly-not-in-peak-condition DC. Little if any use of angles. No footwork. Not even much head movement. But he made a great adjustment and won. Honestly, I think DC was coasting a bit and taking it a bit too lightly. He seemed to imply after the fight he wasn't listening to his coaches or implementing a more wrestling-centered gameplan, which allegedly was a big part of it.

I think that fight is a good representation of the idea that striking (in MMA) is much more of a lottery than grappling is.

Really happy with Diaz, and loved the ground action, which went more or less how I expected, except IIRC I think Pettis caught one really nice reversal. Nate's transitions are extremely smooth, and it's always cool to see something closer to pure BJJ than more wrestling based sub-grappling.

Masvidal/Diaz would be a great fight, even if I feel kind of bad for Edwards.

Costa/Romero went about as expected. I was actually surprised by the degree and intensity of the scoring controversy. I thought Costa clearly landed the better shots in round 2 even if they were slightly less in volume.
