BOTH.
And he also claimed that he beat West in shooting contests EVERY day in practice. The further out they shot... the more he destroyed West. Yes... the guy who once shot 38% from the line routinely beat the guy who once shot 88% from the line...
Then again, in the same book Wilt claimed to have dunked from the top of the key. Reverse dunk. In a game... while at Kansas.
I swear to you... these things are in his book, along with so much more.

I did watch a sports documentary (maybe it was sportscentury) of Wilt not that long ago on youtube and they said a lot of that stuff was made up by his publisher or whoever. Especially the 20,000 women thing in which Wilt said he regrets putting in his book.
I mean when Wilt did focus on winning his 2 title teams won 68 and 69 games but he just wasn't focused enough on it but imagine if he was.

Russell>>>>>Wilt all day every fucking day. Wilt isn't even in my top 5
Re: 2014 Anger General Top 10 Greatest of All Time: #2 selection
Wilt is by far the hardest player to rank for me. The unquestionably most dominant player of all time who just was a career choke artist/relative failure. Had he been able to win a few more times he would have as good of any argument for #1 but as it stands with all of his failures, he drops quite far on many peoples boards876Stephen wrote:Russell>>>>>Wilt all day every fucking day. This. I've always been stumped in dealing with Wilt. Statistical dominance like none other (at least in the regular season) but not nearly enough post season success and clear gag jobs.wailuaFC wrote:Wilt is by far the hardest player to rank for me. I've usually rated him 6th but I think he will drop to 7th in my ranking behind Duncan who will be my new number 6.
Re: 2014 Anger General Top 10 Greatest of All Time: #2 selection
I currently have him at 4th because statistically he was the best player ever, but I just can't move him higher then that due to his in impressive resume. I have absolutely no issue with him being ranked below magic, but I don't think I could put him below bird, just because bird has just as many ?s as wilt does.vcsgrizzfan wrote:This. I guess ?s wasn't the right term, as neither wilt not bird have ?s, perhaps blemishes on their resume would be a better term? Wilt was a career loser who often times sacrificed team success for his own statistical gains, and bird only won 3 championships despite playing every year with 3-5 hofers and had a way too short career. I wish bird hadn't got hurt, as he really is one of my favorites of all time despite being a celticAbeVigodaLive wrote:wailuaFC wrote:I currently have him at 4th because statistically he was the best player ever, but I just can't move him higher then that due to his in impressive resume. - Bird also competed against the #1 player on this list. As well as a very good 76ers squad and Pistons teams that nearly won 3 straight titles, just to get to play those Lakers. I think getting 3 titles out of only 10 healthy seasons (especially when he was joining a rebuilding 53-loss team as a rookie) is actually a GOOD thing.
- People point to Magic's 5 titles vs. Bird's 3 titles and make it seem like that stat alone puts them FAR apart. When in reality, if not for a broken foot to one of the 5 HOFers or whatever number you want to put on them... or a single lost rebound fumbled out-of-bounds... Bird and Magic are tied for titles. Granted, their not... so Magic gets the edge... obviously. I'm just pointing out that only going by blanket generalizations, it's easy to lose context and focus about just how razor thin the margins really were...are.

Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.
Re: 2014 Anger General Top 10 Greatest of All Time: #2 selection
I think magic and bird and pretty much inseparable, nothing separated them during their years playing eachother and I have nothing separating them on my all time list. I just think wilts individual dominance puts him higher on the list then magic and birds teams success.AbeVigodaLive wrote:- Bird ONLY won 3 titles while competing directly against a team with the probable #3 and #4 players on this list.wailuaFC wrote:I guess ?s wasn't the right term, as neither wilt not bird have ?s, perhaps blemishes on their resume would be a better term? Fair enough.
I just wanted to point out that Magic's 5 vs. 3 rings deal is being used more and more and more to create a larger rift between Magic and Bird that just wasn't there when they were playing together, or even in the first 2 decades after their careers ended. It's being created by people only looking at cursory comparisons who never really saw either play.
