Re: Trump officially pulls us out of the Iran deal
So many think the old deal was bad. And even many of the people who wanted to keep it acknowledge that it was flawed. But what made it flawed? The money? The impotence of it not being effective? Will anybody (I assume FPL would be the only one willing to do so) give me a rundown?
More importantly, now what? I assume we all still want Iran's nuclear capabilities to be curbed. So what do we do? Another deal? What would we want that one to look like? Is it feasible? Or, do we simply say F it and worry about ourselves and build up our own stash and wipe them away if they ever dare try something?
[Note: Yesterday Bush whined about me not ripping Arty in political threads. Why would I? I honestly don't even read his takes in these things. He's terrible, just terrible.]

Re: Trump officially pulls us out of the Iran deal
It was a historically terrible deal not only because of the money which was used to fund hezbollah and other terror organizations and expedite Iran's nuclear advancement but because of its total ineffectiveness in terms of policing Iran's program. In terms of the money, it would have been one thing if it was paid after Iran proved that it was complying with the deal but it was hand delivered before day 1 (lol).
The inspections of the facilities were arranged in advance and with notice and they were essentially run by Iran itself. Inspectors could be denied by Iran and they were never going to be allowed to visit military facilities anyway. The deal even allowed Iran to continue enriching uranium which was supposedly not going to be used for weapons (lol). The cherry on the cake is that as soon as the deal expired in 10ish years, Iran would have the means and the ability to almost instantly build the bomb because the deal ultimately didn't inhibit Iran's nuclear development even if all went according to plan in terms of compliance.
Even at face value it was a bad deal, now that it has been proven that Iran violated it at every turn we can conclude that it was the worst foreign policy deal in American history.
What do we do next, Abe, you meek little faggot? We step things up to an all-time high in terms of sanctions and toughness just like we successfully did with Korea, and if that somehow doesn't work we fire bomb their facilities.

Foreign policy isn't really my area of expertise, but from my understanding on the agreement (apologies in advance for any errors):AbeVigodaLive wrote:Will anybody (I assume FPL would be the only one willing to do so) give me a rundown?
Pros
• Reduced uranium enrichment, and prevented production of plutonium, and halting in number of centrifuges produced
• Implemented inspections and monitoring of facilities
• Lifted sanctions (so American companies could do business there)
Cons
• Iran wasn't blocked from development other than materials. The delay in development of weapons is grossly overstated, once the deal expires/Iran left, they could buy uranium/plutonium from elsewhere, and install it in their warheads
• No stop in missile testing, no facilities closed
• Lifted sanctions (and Iran is one of, if not the biggest state sponsors of terrorism)
• Over $100 billion in assets were unfrozen at once, and most of the money went off the radar (in part to black markets, weapons dealers, revolutionary guard, etc)
Others (depends on your worldview
• Was a multilateral agreement with UK/France/Germany, so America both had limited duties and limited leverage (though we lifted the bulk of sanctions/unfroze the bulk of money)
• Had geopolitical considerations (an agreement with Iran would keep them from arms length, instead of moving closer to Syria and Russia)
• Was oppopsed by Saudi Arabia and Israel (who are rivals for both influence and resources in the region)
It's not an agreement I care too much one way or the other about honestly, but it was largely a paper tiger and ineffective. My concern is that leaving could make tensions flare up, but as long as things don't escalate, I don't think it means all that much to me. Trump said it would be something like 90 days before sanctions go back into effect, and Pompeo and Bolton will probably have preliminary meetings by then (I guess they're going to demand Iran stops development/testing of missiles and will probably try and push them to pull forces out of Syria). So I guess leaving is a net positive.

Re: Trump officially pulls us out of the Iran deal
Aside from the X's and O's of the deal, what lies at the core of Iran and Hezbollah's ideology is the drive to destroy Israel. The recent Hezbollah victory in Lebanon in conjunction further puts Israel at the barrel of their gun. Their faith and duty to allah in jihadic terms take precedence over any and everything, and ultimately is the driving force behind any veiled diplomacy they engage in. In other words, they're never to be trusted with a flourishing economy, or means to (regardless of how restrictive) develop nukes.
Trust me, every Muslim in the ME laughed their ass off the moment we lifted those sanctions either for Obama's gullibility, or his willful participation in covertly destroying Israel.

Don't use my go-to's, it's really lame and cringey.
Re: Trump officially pulls us out of the Iran deal
The original deal was flawed from the beginning but each nation knew that going into it. This move is more based on political aspirations than it is anything else, which is why i do not foresee this as being a move that dramatically moves the needle one way or the other on the global level.FPL wrote:Foreign policy isn't really my area of expertise, but from my understanding on the agreement (apologies in advance for any errors):AbeVigodaLive wrote:Will anybody (I assume FPL would be the only one willing to do so) give me a rundown?
