Again, the term "led" is misleading here, as he wasn't even the best player on his own team.King Deez wrote:and continued to for another 19 straight years, how many players have led a team to 19 consecutive playoffs?Robceltsfan wrote:McHale is a 7-time all-star....and the Jazz went to to the WC Semis the year BEFORE Stockton got there.King Deez wrote:Stockton was also a 10 time all-star. Tony Parker has "led" his team to 14 consecutive PO appearances and 4 rings. I think we should put him ahead of Stockton based on this.

So the only thing we're stuck on here is "19 consecutive playoff appearances". OK. Agree to disagree.King Deez wrote:Just updating you with the same exact fact you posted.Robceltsfan wrote:King Deez wrote: Either was McHale

as a top PG ever to play the game he made shit happen and may not have been the actual leader but he was the floor leader pumping up over 10 assists a game for his career and never missed the playoffs. Career 38% from 3 isn't too bad either.Robceltsfan wrote:So the only thing we're stuck on here is "19 consecutive playoff appearances". OK. 14 of his 19 PO appearances resulted in a 1st or 2nd round bounce.
Are we really going to argue that TWO of the top 20 players of the past 40 years played on the same team together for EIGHTEEN seasons and couldn't win even one title????

When other teams were superior to theirs yeah. McHale ever on a team that wasn't stacked?Robceltsfan wrote:14 of his 19 PO appearances resulted in a 1st or 2nd round bounce.

TWO of the top 20 from the past 40 years played together 18 seasons......and there were still teams superior to theirs YEAR-IN...YEAR-OUT???? To the tune of NINE 1st round bounces?

Their 2 best seasons as a team they lost to Jordan. Were they favored most of those 18 seasons or did they lose to teams that were better?Robceltsfan wrote:King Deez wrote:When other teams were superior to theirs yeah. But that's not true. He lost many times when his teams were as good or better.King Deez wrote:When other teams were superior to theirs yeah. McHale ever on a team that wasn't stacked?Robceltsfan wrote:14 of his 19 PO appearances resulted in a 1st or 2nd round bounce.

1986
1987
1989
1990
1992
1994
1995(most epic of all)
1997
1998
1999
2001
All seasons when he lost to a team that was as good or worse in the postseason, and that's being generous. Now if he had won a title, if Malone had a won a title, if Barkley had won a title, these things wouldn't be held against these players but since there ringless it would be disingenous not to. In fact all the all time greats have underachieved in certain years, but when you win titles, those years are more forgivable.
And me personally, sustained careers of putting up great stats with nothing else to show for it, isn't that impressive to me personally.
Stats to me are just there to supplement players greatness, they shouldn't be the main argument and sole reasoning for positioning players.

Those Jazz teams were just as good as the bulls if not better. Jordan was the difference in both of those series, especially in 98.King Deez wrote:Their 2 best seasons as a team they lost to Jordan. Stocktons lack of scoring really hurts him here, kinda torn between mchale and Ewing but gonna give the edge to Ewing. If mchale was afforded the same featured role Ewing had I might switch their places but I find it hard to argue that mchale had a bigger impact coming off the bench

Just as good i would say, especially in 98. I mean Malone and Stockton were both better than Jordan's next best teammate which was Pippen obviously. Dennis Rodman was nonexistent for both series, although he played admirable defense on Malone. The rest of the Bulls consisted of Bison Dele, Toni Kukoc, Ron Harper(34), Luc Longley, Steve Kerr etc none of whom contributed in any meaningful way. It was all Jordan with a little help from Pippen. Yes the Jazz had a total team that was just as good as the Bulls.King Deez wrote:ahh those teams weren't better than the bulls period.876Stephen wrote:Those Jazz teams were just as good as the bulls if not better. Drexler was Lebron lite. He could do anything on the court. Great scorer, developed a jump shot later in his career, when his athleticism declined. Could rebound, pass, defend. He was an all around maestro.
2 finals appearances as the best player on the blazers.
Won a title, albeit in a supporting role averaging 21-7-4 on 51% shooting in the regular season and 21-7-5 on 48% shooting in the playoffs.
10 time allstar
finished 2nd in mvp voting in 92
1 1st all nba/2 2nd team all nba/2 3rd team all nba's
With Mchale, 86, was the only time i thought he was the 2nd best player on the championship celtics. Parish was better than him in 81 and 84.
