Mikan won 5 titles. In only 7 seasons. He played with a BROKEN LEG in the playoffs in one of the two seasons he didn't win a title — and still averaged 20 ppg. The only other time he didn't win a title was when he returned from retirement for half of a season.

The NBA had to change the rules to compensate for Mikan's dominance.

For those who dig the stat... 5 Lead Dog titles.

Mikan's career PER is 27.0. Only LeBron and Jordan have a higher career PER. And, that's probably too low. There are no PER stats for Mikan his first 3 seasons... but his PER would have been off the charts. Check this out...

Mikan had a whopping 23.4 WinShares his 3rd year in the league. Jordan and James have never come close to matching it.


[Note: If you don't vote for Mikan here despite an incredible dominance in stats over everybody else... you might as well take him off the board. You can't hold his era against him at the #16 spot despite having dominant stats... then give him a pass later on and ignore the era. His stats are going to be better than everybody else at this point.]

I would pick George Mikan.

It feels very tough to get a feel for the pre-shot clock players.

But since I try to standardize performance "relative to their peers", I have to take Mikan now, I think, even though there is obviously HUGE adjustments that would have to be made, even more so than most of the old-time players.

In 30 years, no one will even remember that Mikan had lived, let alone have him ranked highly on a list of all-time greats.

If you are judging straight across without any sort of adjustment (i.e.-time machine arguments), Mikan is probably *literally* not in the top 1000.

If you are adjusting relative to era, peers, dominance within era, etc....15 is a fine spot.

Also, Brock was a fucking scrub of a gym leader. All you had to do was get a grass or water type.

The first pokemon game i played was yellow, and I beat him with a THUNDER type pokemon.

So either pick Squirtle or Bulbasaur? There's no other way you're packing grass/water moves that early. And you would have to level grind to get bubble or vine whip or whatever move you needed to beat Brock.

If you picked Charmander like a normal person, Brock is very difficult, and requires you to either catch hella Pidgeys to absorb Onix's bide attack, or grind Charmander all the way to level 15+.

The fact that he is the first gym leader/has the lowest level Pokemon and can still handle multiple other leaders speaks to what a boss he is.

I remember seeing a youtube clip where the "team" was caught in a downpour without shelter, and Brock had a frying pan and he was all like "I'm going to turn my frying pan....into a drying pan" in sort of a singsong voice.

It was pretty funny.
