Like TDK, and to a somewhat lesser extent, Titan, they are stuck in their infatuation of MJ, the 90s Bulls and everything about it. And today's defense, despite your appeal to authority, is better than it has ever been. There used to be a minimum of 1 or 2 guys on the floor at any point in time you could take advantage of on a screen and roll. Those guys are almost obsolete now. More guys can rotate more quickly and more effectively than ever before. Why? Because they have to. There is so much more movement and so much more overall skill in the game now that if you can't rotate effectively on defense in today's NBA, you are a massive liability. If you watched, and took your 90s blinders off, you would recognize it. Today's offenses, against 80s and 90s defenses would be an absolute joke. They would destroy those teams, because there would always be at least one or two glaring mismatches.

You have to guard to past the 3 point line now on a consistent basis. That has never been the case prior to the last decade or so. If you understand geometry, those extra feet make the overall amount of floor you need to cover grow exponentially. It is infinitely harder to play defense now than at any point in NBA history, and it will continue to get even more so as skills continue to improve, especially with long range shooting.

I declare Russell GOAT because he just always won. Whether in high school, college or the NBA, he always won. 11 titles in 13 seasons in the NBA, 2 NCAA championships in 3 seasons at a non traditional school that was absolute dogshit before him and even high school state championships. He always won. He was also underrated offensively (a very good passer, top ten in assists multiple times) who could score when it was required (30 points in game 7 of the first finals against the Lakers) but who knew he was most valuable as a defender and passer and screen setter and played to that. The only things Russell gave a shit about, was the W. A lot of guys give lip service to that, he walked the walk.

You have dogs in every fight. In this case, MJ and the 90s. I only adhere to logic and where the data takes me. I do that in every facet of my life.
