No. This country would shit itself without Cali.
When all the tech companies move to the East Coast what's left of value that California provides?

Lol wtf does your goofy state have to offer?
Uh well Charlotte alone is like the 2nd or 3rd largest financial center in the US. The research triangle is one of the largest think tank areas in the country.

NC isn't some podunk state like Florida.

NC is 100% podunk compared to California, dude. We’re the fifth largest economy in the world, NC is #18.... in the United States.

Spoken like a true ignorant idiot...
Florida is light years ahead of NC...Asheville and the smokies are the only good things in the entire state...and I can get the same shit on the other side of the ridge in Tennessee to be honest

Oh okay.... so if we tweak the parameters then maybe NC would be comparable?

I have lived in NC for over 50 years. I was born somewhere else, and have lived in NC ever since…by choice.

There are suckier states that I have lived in. Such as Kansas and Montana. As backwards as you might think NC to be, you have no. Fucking. Idea. About relative backwardness.

NC is presently undergoing a spasm of backwardness that coincides with the ascendance of Republicans in state government. These lackies have been awaiting their opportunity to relitigate the Civil War. With the recent capture of NC state government by these clueless tools, the election laws have been steadily marching backwards, to the times when only male, white landowners were allowed to vote.

There are other states even worse. Consider modern Pennsylvania.

Be careful who you denigrate.

I’m a North Carolina native. Half of my family is in the Lumbee region, which is the poorest area of NC, and the other half in the surrounding Charlotte region. I’ve seen much of what has gone on in NC since the 1980s.

There’s a lot to hate about North Carolina. Even if you have a great life here, there’s still the backwards government. Most of the hate on North Carolina is a result of having some of the highest inequality in the nation and the lowest economic mobility.

To put it simply, the working class industries in North Carolina have been destroyed over the past few decades. First, hog and chicken farming switched to illegal immigrant labor after NAFTA wrecked the Mexican economy in 1995 and caused Mexicans to flee to the US border. Second, a massive decline in smoking destroyed tobacco. Last, and the most destructive problem, China joining the WTO was the end of furniture, textiles, and cotton. The entire state was involved in those industries to some extent.

Along with that, NC pays corporations to move here. They’re ‘supposed’ to bring open jobs, but what they really do is import their entire workforce. This has caused a population explosion. Along with that, most of those people come from wealthy areas, such as Manhattan, and they’re bringing a lot of money but not spending it on anything that actually benefits locals. Often times, around Charlotte, those yuppies move into SC so that they can dodge NC taxes entirely.

So, the result is that local working class North Carolinians are mostly stuck with retail and food service as a job option, they can’t get a better job since some yuppie from Manhattan got imported to fill it, and that yuppie has caused prices to shoot up so that the locals can’t even afford to live anywhere near where they work.

Chances are, if you ask a millennial local, then the response will be hatred for NC since that group got screwed over more than any other. Usually the ones that praise NC are transplants, mostly due to coming from areas where they’ve been given ample opportunities and easily-acquired success, like middle-class NYC and SoCal. They’re entirely insulated to the problems that NC has. As Glen points out, there are worse states, but that doesn’t mean much. You can go into South Carolina and see that things can get worse, but it doesn’t change the fact that NC is terrible. It’s like saying that India isn’t that bad since Pakistan is worse.[/i][/b]

Did you even read that before desperately posting? The first guy is mad because Republicans are in control, and the 2nd guy is mad because the cotton gin plants shut down.

https://www.newsweek.com/florida-worst- ... try-794175" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

FLORIDA HAS BEEN RANKED THE WORST STATE IN THE U.S.: HERE'S WHY
Florida is officially the crème de la crappy of all 50 states, ranking dead last on a list of best to worst locations in America.

Thrillist released a definitive ranking of the states in July with a “go big or go home” ranking system based on, literally, "everything."

"Everything" being their contributions to America: important, well-known people, inventions, food and drink, and unique physical beauty and landmarks.

And Florida, apparently, has none of those things.

"When putting together a list such as this, there can be some temptation to defy popular expectations and go against the grain," the site said. “However, Florida’s awfulness résumé is so staggeringly impressive that it couldn’t go any other way.”

The state that likely broke most every prediction by topping the list was Michigan.

Despite Detroit’s bad rep, the site argues that Michigan has more coastline than any other state, except for Alaska. The site also mentions the undeniable beauty of the Upper Peninsula and its residents’ willingness to apologize for their creation of Kid Rock.

California and New York rank lower than expected, at Nos. 9 and 13, respectively.

Barely beating out Florida at the low end of the list are Delaware and Ohio. Thrillist has, somewhat rightfully, dubbed Ohio the “Florida of the North.” Ouch.

So what makes Florida so god-awful?

Could be the humidity, the atrocious traffic and the fact that just a few years ago Floridians were smoking bath salts and eating people’s faces off.

"I lived there for four years as a reporter in central and south Florida, and love it in the way that only a person who has gotten the hell out possibly can," Thrillist travel editor Sam Eifling told Newsweek. "Florida is where bath salts and Creed and the Great Recession all got their starts. It's where Donald Trump has chosen to hang out for seven solid weeks during the past year. I mean, c'mon."

Florida's rep has also been permanently damaged since that fateful day in 1981 when Miami became the birthplace of rapper Pitbull (aka Mr. Worldwide).

But according to this reporter's experience, what the Southern state lacks in overall quality of life it makes up for in amusement parks. Florida owes all that it has to Disney World and Universal Studios.

Despite the state's unfavorable ranking, Thrillist remains optimistic for the Sunshine State. It leaves Florida a message of encouragement and positivity: “You were born for this. Embrace it.”
