I laughed out loud when he commented on how he could score 50 at will.

1) 2000 Kobe: 28-46 for 81 points vs. the Raptors (29th ranked Defense out of 30 teams)

2) 1994 Robinson: 26-41 for 71 points vs. the Clippers (18th out of 27)

3) 1990 Jordan: 23-37 for 69 points vs. the Cavs (10th out of 27)

4) 2007 Kobe: 23-39 for 65 points vs. the Blazers (26th out of 30)

5) 1993 Jordan: 27-49 for 64 points vs. the Magic (12th out of 27)

I dunno... when you factor in opposing Defense it's hard to argue against C, Jordan's 69.

What say you?

Havlicekstealsit wrote:Hand-checking was eliminated in '94 & forearm defending was dropped in '97, so any scoring feat after that time period you have to take in the fact defenders are barely allowed to touch you anymore. While Kobe's 81 was a great show, watch the tape of the game and you'll see him coast on offense mostly untouched and rarely double-teamed.
Uncontested at the rim as well.

Who cares about league averages... look at the Defense of the teams each respective player (in the OP) scored against. For example, the 1990 Cavs gave up 103 PPG... the 1993 Magic gave up 104 PPG... the 2006 Raptors gave up 104 PPG.

What's that got to do with Shill's stupid statement about the 90's 'supposedly' being weak?

Pretty easily Kobe's 81.

So teams were vastly SUPERIOR Offensively in the 90's... how does that equal 'weak'?

:asskicking:

That aside, and on a serious note, only uneducated hoops fans look solely at PPG to determine the stregnth of an era.

Not really... Kobe scored, what, 14-15 of his 81 in garbage time when he should have been on the bench (with the Lakers having a comfortable double-digit lead).

Besides, 69 Points against a contending team ---> 81 against a bottom-feeder.
