Jordan was beat down until he won a Championship / Finals MVP... Chucky Bryant was being declared the Next MJ when the real MJ was still winning Rings / MVP's, and Chucky was being hailed as the GOAT (by some) BEFORE he even owned a Finals MVP.Smelters wrote:Well at least Michael and Steph have earned it. More so than any other player and it wasn't remotely close. The difference is the sheer volume of outlets and around-the-clock coverage via multiple media vehicles. I was nauseated by just how much attention Jordan (and later Tiger Woods) got compared to everybody else in their sport. With more options for them to be slurped, it would be ugly today.
Matter of fact MJ was beaten down way more than any of the players that got hyped after him and it's not even close.
I didn't think it was possible for ESPN to blow someone more than LeBron

"Lebron doesn’t guard for a full game and our game plan was to get him to play defense and he left me open all game."

How would you know... you weren't even born back then (and if you were you were watching cartoons, not NBA hoops).Kevin wrote:Jordan was definitely not very humble nor classy.thedangerouskitchen wrote:I dunno about that...AbeVigodaLive wrote:Michael Jordan got plenty of acclaim and attention during his playing days.

Mike was genuine, classy, articulate, educated, charming, humble, not to mention soooooo far and above his peers... people were drawn to him, he was electris... Ali, Ruth, Gretzky and Woods all rolled into one. Hell, even fans of the Bulls' biggest rivals secretly adored him. He was The Total Package.
I'm quite sure a 24/7 MJ Channel would have been an enormous success

You said he's still the guy that players strive to become, and meanwhile Paul George idolized Kobe and not Jordan, and George has been in the league for six years. Rookies today won't have remembered seeing Jordan play. He's not that guy to them and he's not particularly relevant to anyone outside of Bulls homers who live vicariously through the 90's Bulls.thedangerouskitchen wrote:No one compares players to your chucker... they're compared to Mike, the GOAT, the man who set the bar that still today rises far, faaaaar above any player. The fact that George would "lower" his standards (and idolize Kobe) is a clear example of just how far the NBA has declined today... but make no mistake about it, any time a player has a break-out season / moment, the man he's compared to in the NBA circles in MJ. Not Kobe.Kobeunderbite wrote:You really lack perspective. No one idolizes Jordan like you do outside of other Chicago fans who still live vicariously through the 90's Bulls.thedangerouskitchen wrote:
Why would you talk about Kobe 15 years from now, fool... he's nowhere close to the GOAT.
On the contrary, Jordan is STILL the measuring stick... he's STILL the guy every single player in basketball thrives to become... that's why he's still very much relevant today.
In 2 years Kobe will be completely forgotten by the masses.
“Kobe was my Jordan,” (Paul) George said. “Watching him win championships, I remember being at home just watching the games with my mom, my grandma and my dad and just idolizing him.
Discuss why that upsets you.
