This is the second person to choose Mullin just for the sake of appeasing/shutting me up.

I'd like to think I make convincing arguments-- apparently, I'm just annoying.

Oh well, since the desired result is the same I suppose I can still count it as a win of sorts.

Would you rather build a company, bust your ass for 40 years, and end up making $20 million?

Or would you rather hit the lottery tomorrow for $20 million?
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are dumber than that.

At least being annoying requires persist and work/effort...

...not comparable to winning the lottery, IMO.

Winning the lottery requires carrying your fat ass to the local 7-11. So there's that.

I'll pick Alex English because I really hate how annoying Rtiff has been.

.......

.......

Kidding, but I do seriously pick English after looking at it closely. Mainly driven by the differences in longevity and differences in peak value (English got as high as 2nd in PER in a season and 3 higher ranks than Mullin's best).
Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

Traitor!

For the record, Mullin's best 3 seasons in WS's trump English's best...but it's all a coin-flip at this point, anyway.

That, and like I've already admitted to Rob, I really can't speak intelligently about English at all save what I look up on Basketball-Reference (and those can go either way, IMO).

If anyone needs a tie-breaker...

Mullin = Original Dream Team = American Domination.

"English" = "British" = Redcoats = "I hate America."

*In addition to having a significant advantage when it comes to "peak-year-Win Shares," Mullin also has an advantage when you compare the Ortg's of both players, peak and otherwise (Mullin has 2 years better than English's best, and another year tied with it). As Bush noted, English wins the PER battle, but Mullin edges him in some other key advanced metrics.

I switch my vote to Mullin. I like Rtiff, and pissing off the two Celtics fans would be an added bonus here.

:suds:

Just in case anyone was wondering, Mullin was my favorite player growing up and he's still one of my favorites of all time.

It also doesn't hurt that I worked under him indirectly while we were both at GS, and while I rarely spoke to him (the business side and the basketball OPs sides don't interact much, really), he was cool the few times I did.

Uhhh....we aren't exactly choosing between Ainge and Mullin at this point. I don't have much of a dog in this fight.

I took a long hard look at my boy Grant....but there simply isn't enough high-end longevity (for obvious reasons) and team success to warrant his choosing.

Had he stayed healthy in his career, he would have made this list quite some time ago.
Grant, overall, is the best player on the board. What he did pre-injury illustrates that. But it's like you said there simply isn't enough high-end longevity (for obvious reasons) and team success and it is very reasonable not to pick him at this point.
How many playoff GAMES, not series did he win pre-injury? Damn few. It's not be all obviously, but it is something that has to be considered.

I like Manu here. To me, he was incredibly valuable to the Spurs in the 2005 run and generally was the underrated of the big 3 with Parker the overrated one.

I know he didn't even start much of the time, but he had balls the size of grapefruits at key times for the Spurs. Extremely smart and his toughness is seriously underestimated.

I would be willing to go Manu over Hill. Without sounding bitter, I don't get why Mullin has gained so much traction over players that have better resumes or were better players.

I want to clarify that I am not insinuating that Mullin should not be in the conversation. I just fail to see, outside of one's slight bias, how that 5 year run of his should overtake English or even Manu.
