I think it's a tough balance, because what we want to do here is isolate the degree of team success for which the player is responsible.l3bron wrote:Why are we factoring their team success?

Through OP's criteria, Karl Malone is a more sensible pick than Kevin Garnett.fpliii wrote:I think it's a tough balance, because what we want to do here is isolate the degree of team success for which the player is responsible.l3bron wrote:Why are we factoring their team success?

Hm well, he didn't say exactly how much to each aspect in, though.l3bron wrote:Through OP's criteria, Karl Malone is a more sensible pick than Kevin Garnett.fpliii wrote:I think it's a tough balance, because what we want to do here is isolate the degree of team success for which the player is responsible.l3bron wrote:Why are we factoring their team success?

Agreed... based on the criteria KG is not in this discussion at PF.
I think Duncan is the most clear and obvious choice. Kevin McHale (circa 84-88) might be on the 2nd Team.

Who said that was part of the criteria? I'm not using your dumb criteria.thedangerouskitchen wrote:kobeunderbite wrote:It's based on my opinion, not what the teams accomplished.thedangerouskitchen wrote:
You're right... but this ranking is based on what the player/s actually did accomplish, not "what if" scenarios.
Then your opinion / post is disqualified because this thread clearly uses Playoffs / Finals success as part of the criteria.
That said, you ought to start a separate thread for guys like KG, Oscar, et al... ie; greatest individual players withOut the rings / awards.

How their teams performed?
Re: My All-Time Starting 5 based on 5-year peak...
I used the best team, which is why I chose McHale over Duncan. It's justa little difficult to look at someone's peak and only tie it to their team and individual success. McHale had some great seasons and was regarded by many during his heyday as the best PF of all time. But since he played in the 80s with Bird as a teammate and in the Bird-Magic-Jordan era, he didn't have a shot at winning any MVPs, while Duncan didn't have any really tough competition outside of Shaq at his peak.fpliii wrote:Is this meant to be the best players at each position, or the best team? If it's the former that's fine, if it's the latter, not enough touches to go around.
