Magic could have played anywhere, from backcourt PG to backcourt C. He even played back, mid, and frontcourt center in the famous game 6 in the 1980 Finals.

Wow!!
Taking a break from the board. Please reference my last post for more details if you are interested.

Larry Bird

He was a better player than Magic IMO. Offensively he was al least just as good. On Defense, he was Better!

If not for his injury, he'd be even higher.

To be perfectly fair to sportswise, until Nixon was traded Magic wasn't the nominal PG, per se. From the tape I've seen of his first four years, he's slashing/cutting off ball and creating shots/playmaking in the post most of the time. He does seem to run the offense when Nixon was off the court, but I mean...it's kinda obvious that he was a point guard even then.

That was a unique situation. They had 2 great point guards, who both wanted to play on-ball. Magic was bigger and the better passer but couldn't shoot much. Nixon was a great passer and was a solid shooter. The plan was for Norm to move to the 2-guard but he didn't like having go share duties, as he was a proven star at PG.

That's why when ppl talk about Magic being lead dog in those earlier years, they couldnt be more wrong.

Maybe the best passing back court of all time as I think both averaged 7+apg in their time together.

Norm led the league in assists his first year after being traded from the lakers.

My list has Magic and Bird tied at #4... so for the sake of this poll, kindly award 1 point to each player because, really, how can you say with ANY degree of certainty that one guy deserves a higher ranking than the other?

I don't think you can.

Yes, Magic won more Championships and he experienced more team-success; however you could argue (very strongly) that that was due (in large part) to the fact that his Lakers had a virtual cake-walk to the Finals every year "relative to" Bird and the Celtics, who had to go through the Sixers and Bad Boys just to get to the big dance.

Plus, IMO anyway, Bird was a better "individual" player, which sort of make up for the fact that Magic was 2-1 against Larry head-to-head.

So this one is too close for me to call.
