Salmon fishing (Chinook and Coho) off the coast of Vancouver Island. Five day trip. It was fun.Da Stars. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 10:03 amFishing for that great eating Northern Pike, right? No explanation that I can think of. I've maybe watched ten minutes of highlights in total, and not a single second of anything live.

Strictly salmon or you mix in some halibut & black cod with your haul?

Strictly salmon. Halibut are in different waters, 150 miles away or so, according to the captain of the boat who was taking us out. We caught tons, but the rules and regulations are such that most end up being thrown back in. We did bring back a full cooler of fillets though, and left a bit behind that will be smoked and sent to us later.lettherebehouse wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 1:16 pmThat’s wassup_Vcsgrizzfan_ wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 1:12 pmSalmon fishing (Chinook and Coho) off the coast of Vancouver Island. Very cool. Alaskan fishing is similar species as what you’d catch off Vancouver, which is on my bucket list of things I have to do. From what I hear AK is alot more liberal with their restrictions than BC in what you can keep, but awesome for sport regardless. Good for you._Vcsgrizzfan_ wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 1:20 pmStrictly salmon. Halibut are in different waters, 150 miles away or so, according to the captain of the boat who was taking us out. When I was living in AK the salmon limit was 6 a day one year. We'd go down about 11:30 pm catch 6, then 6 more after midnight once or twice a month. Good eating.lettherebehouse wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 1:35 pmVery cool. Alaskan fishing is similar species as what you’d catch off Vancouver, which is on my bucket list of things I have to do. You ever do any halibut fishing out there? I’m trying to get one of them 100lb slobs on the deck and into my plate.

I went once off Soldotna but we didn't get any halibut. I didn't own a boat so had to rely on others. They have a 300lb (iirc) stuffed Halibut hanging in one of the terminals of Ted Steven's airport.lettherebehouse wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 2:11 pmAlaskaHawks wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 2:05 pmWhen I was living in AK the salmon limit was 6 a day one year.
