Keep in mind that the “traditional” dates are based on ptolomey’s list of Persian kings. We need to be careful when we use terms like “well supported”. The historians used the ptolomey framework and back filled it and it took on a life of its own. Josephus works contradicts it and Martin Anstey and Frederic kenyon came up with alternative chronologies. And Daniel’s own prophecy predicted 4 kings of Persia not 6.CleveTown™ wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 8:56 pm @Ati
I read the article. And a case could be made for it but also it would accepting non-Biblical sources over Biblical ones, and in the end I can't justify it. The article's proposed timeline is questionable at best (to me), and speculative historical revisionism at worst.
The traditional dates for the return fromBabylonian exile under cyrus are well supported i think by both biblical texts and archaeological evidence.
Daniel 11:2 “‘And now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than them all; by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. 3 Then a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. 4 And when he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken up and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not among his posterity nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be uprooted, even for others besides these.’”

i find it fascinating. I'm always buying history books. Right now I am studying the workf of Hegesippus. He was a jewish convert to christianity. he was born 110ad and died 180ad. he wrote a history of the jewish people from the time of the maccabees towards his own time. good stuff.CleveTown™ wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 10:05 amyeah bro, it gets a little confusing and takes much more time to delve into than I really want to dedicate to it.AtiliusRegulus wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 3:11 amKeep in mind that the “traditional” dates are based on ptolomey’s list of Persian kings.
