The general public were duped. The reviewers? Pffft, who knows why they loved it.

So you think that The Force Awakens wasn't pretty much a carbon copy of A New Hope. Laaaaaaaaame. You watch lots of movies I'm guessing. How can you rate this movie so high? Is the franchise like family to you or something? Dude, it was a little bit of a joke of a flick. A little bit. It was entertaining to a degree, but nothing special.

Though I don't think it was anywhere near as quality of a movie, I was honestly more entertained by The Phantom Menace than The Force Awakens.

It was a new plotline....new characters....some new locations....it was more interesting to me.

As I stated before, I enjoyed TFA....but it's not some great movie. It was good.
I welcomed the new director in this movie. I welcomed change. But only if it was done well. Unfortunately, after it was over, I was missing that George Lucas magic that he brought, even with the prequels.

Simple minds just don't understand nor appreciate the artistic brilliance of the prequels. TFA is all flash, no substance. It was like they put more thought into the social agenda of the movie than the actual characters and plot. The humor was such forced Marvel style/Avengers lame shit.

The prequels brought a depth to the action.

I knew it was only a matter of time before TFA started getting the Avatar treatment.

It gets attention. And responses.

So of course we're going to get a lot of those posts here.

[Note: I'm not in the camp that thinks the move was a "great movie." It was entertaining and popular and "most" people have indicated that they prefer it to the prequels. But with anything subjective, everybody can voice their own opinion. And if that "opinion" gets people to notice you online? SUPER!]

I don't think it's a perfect movie by any means. Neither does KUB if anyone has paid attention. It's definitely a fun movie and it's nice to see the Star Wars ship pointed in the right direction after so many years. The movie is nostalgic and made me smile and that's why I loved it.

I can understand if people didn't like it. The only issue I have is those going to extremes and saying stupid stuff to garner attention on why they didn't like it. Trying to explain that the prequels were "deep movies" to explain why you didn't like TFA is just stupid to me. It's like the people that screamed "FERN GULLY 2" or "ALIEN DANCES WITH WOLVES!" when Avatar started getting attention that comes off as stupid to me.

I mean, TFA is a nice film. But it plays it EXTREMELY safe, which makes it generic as hell. I felt like I was watching a Marvel movie meets Disney princess rendition of A New Hope. It's a horrible Star Wars film though.

The prequels failed due to execution, whereas TFA failed before it even was filmed. Who honestly thought it was a good idea to copy and paste the plot from A New Hope? All the while completely desecrating the original trilogy through character assassination. I can never look at the original trilogy again, knowing that the Rebel triumph and defeat of the grand evil barely lasted... Luke becomes a coward and hides as a hermit, Han and Leia raise a dysfunctional son... It absolutely shits on the original trilogy. Instead of making their own story, one that doesn't destroy the original trilogy, they decide to go deja vu and destroy the legacy for a few nostalgia grabs and shock moments.

There wasn't anything deep about the prequels and the acting, for the most part, was borderline awful at times.

There isn't a Star Wars movie that I haven't enjoyed. They're all entertaining to me. I "like" TFA and was entertained, but I found it very predictable at times. The nostalgia was thick and that was a wonderful thing. The CGI and action scenes were great, but the entire movie was more of a setup for installments 8 and 9 than anything else.

What do we know about Luke and what has happened over the past 30 years?

Are you the same person you were 30 years ago?

You don't go from defeating the greatest evil the galaxy has ever known, resisted the darkness like no one else had, the perennial savior of the galaxy, hero...To a coward who runs away from conflict. You just don't. Poor writing. How can we look at ROTJ or any of the original trilogy again. It's made a complete mockery of his trial and tribulations... And most of all his greatness.

Yoda went from a badass motherfucker leading the Jedi Council, taking out Count Dooku and going head-to-head with Palpatine/The Emporer........to a fucking recluse in a matter of days.

Luke trained under Yoda (and Obi-Wan to some extent....who bitched out and disappeared too).....so I don't see how it's a stretch for things to go wrong in the Galaxy and Luke ends up hiding himself.
