Gervin's best postseason numbers > Durant's.

Gervin also shot better percentages in more areas against superior competition.

With all due respect to Durant, he is NOT better than George Gervin at the present time.......... now that could change in 3-5 years, or it could not.

Please explain the "superior competition" part...

Most certainly. Gervin played in the late 70's and early to mid-80's against the top of the line HOF'ers at his position such as Dr. J, Bird, Dominique, Bernard King, Alex English, Adrian Dantley, etc.

He also often ended up facing mighty and championship tested teams in his playoff runs that came up short.

Nothing against Gervin, but you're trolling or the village idiot if you pick him ahead of Durant. The finger roll is really swell and all, and he was a really good player, but Durant is in a class above.

I'd have to go with KD over George as well.

You are the first person I've ever heard claim the NBA in the late 1970s featured "superior" competition.

Let's not forget Gervin didn't have the 3-pt line to his advantage for a number of years, and also has 4 scoring titles to his name.

Late 70's, Early 80's same thing.

Gervin and Durant shot essentially the same on two-pointers, with Durant having a decisive edge in FTs, and a laughably advantage on three-pointers (career)

In terms of peak, Durant has the highest percentaged season in ALL of the aforementioned categories.

Gervin played in the ABA and that had the 3 point line.

He made 45 three pointers in 4 seasons. Total.

Surely you jest, there stats are close, but Gervin has an edge in a great percentage of them as well as the longevity PLUS has more All-Star selections and made playoff seasons compared to KD's pace.

Factor in the lack of a 3-pt line during some of Gervin's years, which is also a big factor of Durant's game and that makes it even more impressive with Gervin's elite scoring gift to put up those numbers.

Also added in he perfected the finger roll and became an icon to many...... the answer to better player as of NOW, is George "Iceman" Gervin.

Yeah. Nobody took a lot of 3's when it first came around. Not like they do now a days anyway.

No. It's not... unless you think teams like the Seattle SuperSonics and Washington Bullets were as good as Boston, LAL and Philly...

Or, you think guys like Walter Davis, World B. Free, Paul Westphal, Bob Dandridge and Truck Robinson were as good as guys like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

Love Durant, I just think active players should have at least ten years before being considered here, if not there better be a good fucking case. Kidd has more finals as a lead dog and has a ring (albeit as a role player). I don't consider the MVP thing a big swayer either, Durant mainly got his MVP cuz they were tired of giving it to LBJ every year, Kidd could have gotten MVP in 2002. I'm open to hearing thoughts on this.

So, you're giving Kidd MORE credit for winning 52 games and beating a Celtics team in the ECF that had Antoine Walker shooting 22 times per game? Kenny Anderson, Tony Battie and Erik Williams also started on that Celtics team. Or, the next season when the Nets won 49 games and only had to beat one team with 50 wins (exactly 50 wins) to make the Finals.

Lol nice pic.

But just because he made it to the Finals... that's more impressive than Durant losing the WCF to the eventual champs? Or winning 70% of his games over 4 seasons...?

J Kidd 107 triple doubles, 3rd all time behind legends Oscar and Magic.

George Gervin with 203 games shooting over 50% while scoring 27+ points is best for wing players with at least two "Gs" in their name.

I guess we all have specific stat plateaus we find most important...

J-Kidd and Payton is a good one, I might lean Payton though because he made 1 more Final and won 1 more ring then Kidd did, along with winning a DPOY. Sure Kidd was a Triple Double Whiz, but Payton's effect on the game was arguably as big if not bigger than Kidd's.

Both definitely are earning of spots in the next couple slots though.

Not weighing in on Payton vs Kidd in particular here, but Payton's ring is pretty much completely irrelevant. They won it as much despite him than because of some positive contribution. He was less of a factor than Norris Cole on a Heat title.
